Looking at getting an inflatable PFD, but don't know which one.
Manual inflatable yoke type but which brand. As with anything there are cheap ones and then there are 'cheap' ones.
Hopefully someone can point me in the right direction.
Thanks

Gday ice, i just got 2 of the new ones that fit around your waist like a bum bag. They work the same as the slimline type they have a rip cord that you pull and the self inflate. I find them great they allow you to fish without any interference. But alot people dont mind the slim line type.
You can have a look on Saturday.
I recently bought a Wild Country PFD from DohDohDohDoh for about $90, it seems OK to me but its the only one Ive owned so I got nothing to compare to.

The sale at anaconda sale is what had me think of buying one, and that the last time i went out on a boat i was using one of those big puffy yellow ones.

Craig,
I baught another inflatable PFD last week. Its a Burke one and they are on special for $100 at whitworth. It is more comfortable and sits a fair bit nicer than the other inflatable (marlin) I had when you came out with me. The hutchwilko ones that Ruski mentioned look the goods, but the ones I looked at where a bit rich for me.
PS. I havent forgotten about those photos.

Hi
I am from WA and was wondering if the Victorians' PFD that goes around the waist is a PFD Type 1 or something else? Just wondering if WA and Vic has the same or different rules as I need Type 1. Have never seen this before in WA. Interested in the waist PFD as the manual ones that goes over the shoulders I can't use as I have a slight shoulder back problem, the slight weight affects me esp with casting all day
Many thanks

when i get home from work today i will take a couple of pics for you.
And yes they are pfd 1 type, in vic if your boat is under 5 mtrs you need to wear one all the time, and my boat is 385 so i find them great. (i think its 5 mtrs someone might corect me on this it could be 4.5 mtrs)

For $125 you cant go past the stormy seas ones, They are the best and most comfortable without question.

if the boats are under 4.8 metres you must wear a pfd in Victoria.

When buying cheap inflatables, check to see if the comply with Australian standards. Many of them only comply with the European standard, which is legal in Victoria, but no where else in Australia.
Yeah, the marine board really had our well being in mind when the new regs were enforced...... NOT!!!!

Guys and gals please consider an auto inflating one if you're in the market.
With the latest breed of 60mph+ boats can you really trust that you will be consious enough to pull the cord IF you come out??
Small extra price to pay for your life, and I hope I never see anyone need to use one.

But with the automatic ones, won't the water automatically inflate the lifejacket? I'm assuming that's how it works. When you are in a shallow slow moving dinghy like mine, not a speedy bass boat, just don't want it to trigger off each time I go out which means a new cylinder replacement each time? Yea one doesn't know how one would react in a situation or may be knocked out. After what I heard about the terrible weather at the last Perth Classics comp, and the incidences that occured, yea, should give it more serious thought.
I'm suppose to go to Anaconda on Friday to get the waist type PFD and would be interested to hear from those who have the automatic ones to hear what they have to say re triggering it off by accidental water contact.
Many thanks

I think it has to be submerged for them to go off. They will not go off if you get splashed. Just don't hose them down when you're washing the boat.
Dave: We can't all have 60mph bass boats ;) :D
