Hi all
I'm putting in a fore casting platform in the tinny. I've cut the timber and got everything ready, now i just need the carpet.
Well got mum to go to the carpet shop and ...... they wanted $70 for a piece 1.5m X 1.5m  of waterproof carpet.
Should I expect to pay this much, or do you have any other suggestions carpet wise
cheers breamobasser  :(

BoB, I'd have thought that was a bit steep. In Perth, you could expect $30-$40 per metre off a 2m wide roll.

Sounds a little better, is it really this expensive:confused:
What's the place called in Perth, maybe that chain would be over here in NSW:(
cheers breamobasser  :(

I bought some at WA salvage for $8 m, it's 1.8 wide. It's not ribbed or flash but neithers my punt, the bream dont seem to mind.

sounds like a bargain to me:rolleyes:
just rang a boat shop and he quoted $45 for a piece 2m X 1m that's not to bad is it:(
Might just have to be a neccesity purchase:D
cheers breamobasser :p
The other thing you could do is ring around the boat yards and see if they have off cuts they would part with.
We got our carpet at a vehicle upholsterer supplier. They sell the carpet to the public sometimes. Maybe try an upholsterer, probably cheaper than from a marine or boat shop

hi
i'm about to redo my deck(which is carpeted)but i was thinking
of doing it in rubber or say cork this stop sand build up,
your trebles getting hook up etc.

Be careful Durko. One of the things I like about carpet is no hot surfaces. Rubber is not so kind.
Also, the problem with cork is the weather. You will need to keep it oiled constantly. That and hacking it up with bream spikes :D

I'd geard someone talking about using artificial turf once too. Its strands and not loops like carpet so it should resist hooking up also.

That was me big fulla, just seemed like another cheap option. Must handle water OK, (hockey etc) just not sure about salted water.
One thing to take into consideration is the thickness your after, this effects the price most of all. I know Charles Parsons in WA have some $50 1mx2m and sell to the public, and they are in NSW and Vic as well.

Try Bias boating I've always found them reasonable, just remember cheaper is not always better,:) :)
Hey Bear.
Your comment about the hot surfaces isn't true to all carpets mate. My friends Stacer came with carpeted floors when he bought it (brand new). That particaular carpet gets sizzling hot in the summer sun. Choose wisely if you plan to fish in our Aussie summers!!!

The Grey seems to be hotter than the Blue for some reason?? Thats what my feet have told me so far.

clark rubber definitely do have waterproof carpet, as well as other rubber floor covery things whihc could be worth a look, and Im pretty sure it would be a lot cheaper than the prices you quoted.

Hi Guys
I was telling Craig_S about the place we got the boat carpet from but for the life of me can't remember the name. It was around the corner from the timber place, it's a well known name, the timber place, got it M & B Sales 144 Beechboro Rd Bayswater WA 6053
ph: (08) 9272 2555 Plywoods & Veneers
The carpet is a 4 metre roll so at $48 a metre is a bargain.
yay got it!
 ok Mim got it
Boag Distributors
3a Chalkley Pl Bayswater WA 6053
ph: (08) 9272 7896 Carpet & Carpet Tiles--W'salers & Mfrs
We have the non-ribbed blue carpet and it's not too hot
Yeah i think i agree with you there richo!
I cant really remember, but i think his carpet was grey. We go out and fish the deep sea in it, and in the middle of summer, it really can burn your feet!
