View Full Version : 2 use the middle treble or not?
hi guys?
personally i don't use a middle treble and still get a great hook up 2 strike ratio ...........
it's practicly the best way to prevent snags in a thick snaggy area, but has anybody found that it makes a difference to have the middle treble on ...???????????????????????????????????

I don`t take them off. ive had enough fish hook up on the middle treble to make me leave them on. But on that note I know plenty of fellas take them off, and still do very well. I just don`t want to loose mr big because he slammed the middle of the lure and missed hooking up. It certainly helps stop the lure being spat.
cheers
Hi Drew. One of the reasons I did this was because of the problems I had as a shore basher. I find the loss ratio almost nil fishing from the boat.
One thing that does still bug me with smaller lures like the scorpions is that fact that the front and back treble still hook up on each other. I've found that one way around this is to use a slightly smaller treble on the front. Something like the black vanadium VMC trebles.
This means that the front and back treble can no longer hook up on each other, but I can still get fish on the front by direct hit or wrap around fouling.
HTH.

Hey Drew, take it off or leave it on has been a popular discussion point in here for sure.
I'm another that likes it left on, I've had plenty hook up on the middle treble.

Yeah I'm another "leave it on"...
Caught 2 bream on 1 lure, wouldn't have happened without the front treble...

From certain shore based areas i take it off. But froma boat, i leave it on. I have caught bugger all fish on the front treble though. So it doesnt bother me to be honest!

i seem to find that my hook ups have been on the back treble only ............ and find i get snagged on snag's (supprising that!), especially i find they follow behend the lure a hit the back ........ ?
but i think i might leave the middle one on for flat's fishing ....... !!!

Leave it on. Caught many a fish solely on the middle.
