Storing softies

Hi Guys, until recently I've been storing my softies in their original bags which are clipped into one of those plano tackle wraps. While this system works, it can be a bit fiddly to get out another tail to put it on.

I recently bought a softbag that fits 2x plano 4000 series boxes and a smaller one. At the moment I store jig heads and hardbodies in it.

I would like to store my plastics in one of these boxes, but I was a bit worried about them drying out. I noticed that a lot of them are quite oily when they come out of the bag, and I assume this has something to do with their scent.

Does anyone store their softies in a plano box (out of their bags)? Has anyone had any problems with them drying out, or any other problems with storing them this way?

Hey James,

I took all my Ecogear Grass Minnow S out of their bags and put them in a dedicated Plano 3500. Whilst they haven't dried out, the oil has gone. I would leave them in their packs from now on.

As for all my other plastics, I have a Plano 1234 Tackle Box which has 3 x 4000 series storage boxes in them, and it has kept all the atomics, sliders etc soft and supple.

I keep all my softies in planoe tackle boxes, which slide into the plano 1233 tackle box i have. Yes the oil dries out but it does not affect the plastics softness, this oil acts as a softening agent and is mixed into the plastic itself so its soft and flexible. I have not experienced a plastic drying out, same goes for plastics with scents as this impregnated into the plastic.

Thanks guys. I don't own any ecogears (yet) but sounds like my sliders, atomics, etc will be ok.

PS. I have a jack russel, I wonder how they would keep in there? It might be hard to get them back out again, and I don't see how I can fit a handle to it though....

Although Ive a Plano 4000 full of them, Ive been leaving all the last pkts ive brought in the pkts they came in. Thes ones in the plano have lost there oil content for sure. Although one Ive poured Sea Salt into and Im unsure of the results yet..... As I just don`t use them enough.....

i've a plano 3500 completely divided with the small selection of SP's i currently have - there are 6 or so tails of each, in each compartment. The rest are kept in their original packaging until needed. You can always have them kicking around to restock the box if one pattern is killing it.

I put all plastics including Ecogear into 4000s. Scent is always impregnated with the better lures like Ecogear, so drying out shouldn't really be a problem. The oil tends to come off as soon as the lure hits the water anyway...?

Hi Jimi,

I put a few drops of aniseed oil in each compartment which keeps my plastics soft and oiled as well as an added scent :D.

g day to stop your sliders and atomics drying out just put a bit of olive oil in with them, this keep them fine

Many people have problems storing sp's in stowaways because they have bought ones which are not worm proof. when lookin for a box for your sp's make sure it is labelled worm proof this ensures that your plastics dont dry out and melt in the box. All of you seem to be okay though as i have read in a number of magazines that all plano boxes are worm proof.

just to back up what dell has said before that all plano boxes are wormproof this statement is 100% correct for the man at DohDohDoh told me so (he knows everything:D ) i keep my plastics in a shakespere box and they seem to be fine whenever i want to go and use them...you have to put your plastics into a container because they look far better and more profecional;) ;) ;) :p
