Yamatoyo harisu fighter and the line systems super egging for me, but I feel safer with the yamatoyo. The super egging does seem thinner in 6lb but im not overly convinced of its knot strength.
I tried the nitlon too and it is quite good and its value makes it hard to pass up.

I kicked off this bream fishing thing using vanish, but found some Nitlon in my local store of dependence and have neer looked back since. I love the stuff.

has anyone used that sunline i mentioned?
its only around $20 for 100m.
its pritty thin but i will definently look at the yamatoyo lines.
i might even order some linesystems.
vanish is a bit to thick

Is a close call between Nitlon and Line System for me, if the Line system came in a bigger spool for the same price as Nitlon it would win hands down, in saying that the Nitlon has never let me down yet.
Hi guys,
Has anyone tried using SUNLINE BASIC FC as leader, I saw it in the shops for like $20 for 300m, and if it is any good, it would be bloody cheap compared to the line systems im used to.

Doing alright with Nitlon. Good value, great strength and abrasion resistance. Using 8, 12 and 20, will be adding 16 and 30.
Momoi for me when you can get it, it's a bit of a rare commodity nowadays. Otherwise Yamatoyo and I have been using some 4lb Bass Hard Egging lately and it seems to be pretty good so far.

sunline vhard is good stuff i use it alot and so is the yamatoyo fluoro rock fish and as with any leader i check for knot strength ,nicks and abrasion after every fish:) off the bank around rocks i use 6-8lb leader at 2m long(not every one's cup of tea)ive had very very bad luck with bass hard it frayed like cotten:confused: and produced spider like webbing up and down its length to the point of falure on many outings?in the end i couldnt trust it and things i dont trust get the flick!

I've recently been using the Unitika Fluro Carbon lines, the Night game is only available in 3lb, but for flats fishing I'd recommend it to anyone. Compared to most other brands of Flurocarbon it's much thinner. about 2/3 of the thickness of Yamatoyo. Comes in 70m Spools.

Update on the Unitika Flourocarbons there are now 2 types available.
Night Game - 2 and 3lb available in 70m spools for $19.99
-Super Limp
-Great knot strength
-THIN THIN THIN
-Impressive abrasion resistance
Super Flourocarbon - 4, 6, 8 and 11lb available in 50m spools for $22.99
-Unbelievable abrasion resistance
-Triple layered
-Good limpness
-Cutting blade on the spool
Between these two types of FC all my purposes are covered from Ultralight flats fishing to locked drag battles in tight spots.

My favourite flurocarbon line is Berkley Vanish. Never had a problem!
Piscateur
22-09-2008, 04:59 AM
Have thrown all my Vanish out. Lost too many fish on them. Knot strength is non-existant. Now use Yamatoyo cant fault it. The Unitika sounds the pick of the bunch with the thinner diameter. But thinner does mane less abrasion resistance(generally) and will try them when my spool runs out.

famell is my fave,. especially the 5lb. basic fc as my 2lb setup and for surface lures i run plain mono or crystal straight to the lure(due to the flouro's tendancy to sink)

superduperdude where do ya get the super fc, sounds good. i fish in some real nasty cover and i need all the abrasion resistance i can get.
I get all my stuff through Compleat Angler and Camping World in Nedlands, the shop I work at.
I've been using the Unitika FCs for ages now, and I'm pretty keen to recommend them to anyone. The Night Game is reall thin, so as someone said it's not the best for fishing snags, but it's awesome on th flats (and is good as a mainline too).
The Super FC (I dont know if thats the proper name, but it has Super written on it!) is quite a bit stiffer, but still much limper than some other FCs out there which I like. Amazing abrasion resistance - nothing beats pulling a bream straight across a pylon - that'll learn em!!

I am suing 300m spools of Sunline Basic FC, at cost of $21 a spool. It is the Japanese Domestic Siglon.
Nice and thin, very abrasive-resistance, rather supple (2lb is really supple, 4lb is so-so) and very nice knot strength. I used to have the issue of leader knots popping (and attachment knots, problem solved) but that has not happened once since switching over from Line System FC.
I like Yamatoyo Harris Fighter, too.

at the moment I'm using Bawo Super Finesse in 2.5,3.5,4.5lb and I think it's decent (should be at around $55 a pop!) but standout's by FAR is FC rock in 2lb and Fulling Mill flouro .... love the stuff so thin yet strong!

Only 3 months into this caper, so came in with an open mind.
First off I bought Line System 6lbs.
Next came Nitlon 6lbs
Now also have Vanish in 8lbs.
My observations?
Line System suppleness is awesome, but so is the price! Abrasion resistence was average, as was knot strength.
Nitlon is better priced, and better i knot strength and abrasion qualites. saying that, it is noticeably stiffer than Line System.
Vanish. Can't beat the bang for buck factor. Knot strength is good. I feel it is a touch stifer again than Nitlon, but it is noticably thicker for a given breaking strain.
I believe not an issue is used straight through( which I bought for a general baited estuary outfit), but as a leader caused the first casting knots I've ever had. This was evident when tying on with a double uni knot., it was noticeably bulkier.
Balancing performance versus value, I'm happy with the Nitlon for the moment....
Until I try something else!
Cheers,
Pat

I have been using this of late (see below) was sceptical at first but with the advice of some members on here i ran it relatively straight through (50m or so) and wow what a top notch fluoro. I think it was about $35 for 150m which i think is good value for money. I also have vanish in 6lb but it is really bulky as mentioned previously so i tend to use it for dirty, snaggy water only. It really comes down to your personal preference, 6 months ago there would be no way i would fish with 3lb fluoro but now having built up confidence in my fishing i am happy to do so.

I have been using 6lb Vanish and i must say its horrible.
On the weekend i lost what would have been 3 great bream due to vanish. So im glad everyone has said what they use. Im going to have to try some other leaders.
By the sounds of things im guessing that linesystems, yamatoya and nitlon are the best of the group

through a series of events led me to try the vanish and haven't regretted it.
got a spool of 6lb in the prize pack from docklands vicbream and tried it out and landed some pretty good fish from the nong.

Just be careful with vanish, I used to be a 6lb vanish-o-holic mainly because it was cheap and seemed to do the job well, despite landing countless fish with ease there were a couple of instant bust offs and snagged lures where I believe the line broke WAY to easily:confused: I finally switched to 6lb Sunline fc rock.. while Dale and I had a double hook up the other week, the sunline proved itself! my 35cm wrapped me around a rock! after a few nervous moments, I managed to land the bream and my leader came up absolute cactus but still held strong:) same this happened a couple days later this time on a 37cm bream! landed the fish:D atleast 30cm of my leader was horribly frayed but still held strong:D If I was still using vanish I would have lost both fish for sure, I have no doubt.

Hi Carragant, I doubt that you can feel the fluoro stretch if it's only 1-1.5m long.
If it's right through, then yeah, maybe. But over the rod length at best you have to be a real good at it to see/feel the difference.

The black magic is mono coated with Fluoro if I am not mistaken, makes it a bit cheaper to produce and means you get some of the benefits of both mono and fluoro, however not all the benefits of either.
I have a couple of spools of it in 10lb and 12lb for flatties and Tailor who don't seem to care too much about visability of leader material. Other than that I have been using 6lb Linesystem for about 6 months and have been quite happy with it.
