I HAVE GENERALLY ALWAYS USED 10 LB VANISH FOR MY LEADERS WHEN LURING FOR BREAM AROUND RACKS AND SNAGS.I HAVE JUST PURCHASED SOME PLATYPUS SUPER 100 CLEAR MONO IN 15 LB WHICH IS AS THIN IN DIAMETRE AS THE 10 LB VANISH.JUST WONDERED IF ANYONE HAS TRIED IT ???? MIGHT GIVE IT A RUN AT THE FORSTER BREAM COMP THIS WEEKEND. SEE YA THERE!!! :)

I wouldn't want to drop one or even two fish on experimental gear during a tourny, can you at least try it on Bream in another river somewhere first????. It sound's like it's great stuff, and will be very interested to see how it goes

Brave call to road test some new line in a comp. The super 100 is nice stuff for me its relatively memory free and soft outside and a hard core. Its nice stuff and should serve you well. I have been using 8lb and its more like 6lb in diameter it has probably the smallest diameter for a mono.

THANKS GUYS FOR YOUR REPLIES.THE REASON WHY I THOUGHT I WOULD GIVE IT A GO AT FORSTER IS BECAUSE I HAVE RECENTLY BEEN MONSTERED BY A FEW HAWKESBURY BREAM AND I THOUGHT THAT I MAY HAVE MANAGED TO PULL THEM OUT OR AT LEAST HANG ON WITH THE HEAVIER POUNDAGE MONO BUT USING THE SAME WIDTH AS THE VANISH I CURRENTLY USE.

I ENTERED THE COMP AS A NON BOATER AND HE DICEDED TO FISH THE SNAGGY CREEK AREAS RATHER THAN THE RACKS SO THE15LB LEADER WAS NOT USED.HOWEVER THE GUYS THAT DID WELL FISHED VERY LIGHT OVER THE WEED BEDS AND DROP OFFS SO MAYBE I SHOULD HAVE FISHED 4LB MONO RIGHT THROUGH TO THE JIGHEAD.I ALSO HAVE THE SUPER 100 IN 4LB MONO,SO I WILL NOW SPOOL UP AND GIVE IT A GO.

I'll be intersted to see what you say about the Super 100, I've seen someone say it was terrible stuff, but Platypus usually make good stuff so I wonder if there was some other factor involved like UV damage or something.

I know what you mean about some of those Hawkesbury bream :D Some days I wished I had fine 24kilo :D Let us know for sure how that Super 100 goes cause if its any good it would be handy in some of the areas I fish. Don't forget to say howdy to the old man for me :D

Hi Ravin
You mean 24kg Stand up gear there are some serious blue lips swimming around the hawksberry at the moment.
My Father (Retired) pickuped up a 800grm and 1kg fish in water less than a meter around Berowra. Its the first time he has cut himself with fireline. He had the bail open as the tide was slack and allowed his offering float around. He ad two fingers on the line and then bang, ouch, expletive, blood and a decent fish on.

When fishing around racks and other nasty structure the only thing that is going to save you is line diameter. Once the line starts rubbing poundage is no longer in the equation. If it was possible to get 100lb leader with a dia of .10 and six pound leader with a dia of .15 and both were made of similar material, once they start rubbing the 6lb will last longer than the 100. I'm not saying use six pound leader in the racks but I feel choosing the right dia is a lot more important than poundage.
I know of a lot of guys who are on the endless hunt for the highest poundage with the finest diameter, but at the end of the day I dont think there are many bream out there that will break 6-8lb line in clear water.

Hi Mick
I dont think diameter is the only defining characther of Mono snapping in two.
If the diameters of 20lb is 0.1 and 0.15 (for arguments sakes) the 0.1 wouldnt snap first. This would mean cheap lines with larger diameters would have more value around oyster racks and obstacles. If anything abrasions would reduce the strength of anyline (in percentages) so if you keep dragging bream out of oysters your going to need to change leaders soon than later.
There are some good materials out there that handle abit of abrasion than mono, Fluro is good as well as some mono like Penn 10x nice stuff.
Cheers
