As i have never fishing from a kayak i was wondering what you do with your paddle when your fishing. Where do you put it, does it get in the road. Particularly with a sit on kayak.

g'day bassobreamer,
i just cut a couple of ali strips about 20 cm long and glassed them to the left hand side of the kayak between the cockpit and edge of kayak, measured off where paddle blades where on the paddle and just stuck em down, bent them to suit paddle afterwards,a bit rough but does the job,i use a break down paddle so blades can be swivelled to lie the same way, saves line catching on them.

while i'm fishing i keep the paddle on my lap. i often have to use a one hand stroke to turn one way or the other.

if the paddle gets in the way i toss it over the side as it is attached to the kayak via a 100 lb wire trace leash. the leash is probably my most important piece of equipment, so i never have to worry about having to swim for it if a lose it overboard.

i am considering riveting a couple of clips onto the side of the kayak so that i dont always have the paddle in my lap.

shoey.

I've just got a couple of plastic paddle clips from the local boat joint bolted to the deck beside me...

I usually just sit it across my lap and it hasn't got in my way. If there's any sort of wind or chop about it can catch the end of the paddle. In this case I just sit the paddle along side me -- blade by my feet and shaft going past my left hip. I also use a paddle leash so if necessary I can just drop it alonside the yak.

keep on paddlin',
