Thanks for the thankyou mate, Yeah the bream classic did come off pretty well and I'm glad you blokes enjoyed it. You are absolutely right about the 7th sept being set aside for the briefing night which will take place at Cobdogla C/van pk at 7p.m. on the Friday night. Fishing times are 6.30am to 2.30p.m on sat/sun. 8th and 9th sept;2007. There is also a bar-b-q being catered for competitors by the C/van pk. Posters as well as pre-paids will be available soon and the event haws raised a lot of interest here within the Riverlands Fishing Community. I think a lot more are willing to compete this year any thing else you need to know just ask OK?
Regards

Team Thrillseeker, will be there

i think after the success of last years comp you ran Brian, you will have 3 times that many this year :) i know a lot of the Bream Guys are going to give it a go  and i think it will be a great social weekend away too, the Cobby Van Park is a beauty ;)

I personally have never caught a Callop casting a lure, so am really looking forward to a few practice runs over the next few months, lived at Cobby for a few years and always used to fish with bait there, so have a good idea where i might find some fish :D

looking forward to it Brian, cheers chuck

G'day chuck, I would be pleased to see the bream community supporting this series of events. Chasing callop on lures is much the same as "Bream Fishing" in that the same lures and techniques can be utilised in there pursuit. One thing of difference though is the fact that callop will often strike a larger lure than 61/2cms and can be just as fickle too in that they'll also some times only hit minitature sized offerings. Its just a matte4r whats happening on the day. Certainly Pre-Fishing the course should give you an idea on what to utilise on the weekend of competition. You must also de-contaminate your livewells after using them on bream and the best way I know is to hot flush with water and plenty of scrubbing with bleach. Recently I targeted callop on snags with 100mm lures with success in a cast and retrieve format as required by the rules of this competition. So I know that this style of fishing works. Also since the classic will be run during closed cod season all cod must remain in the water and unhooked beside the boat. No trophy shots out of the water with cod will be tolerated and those who breach these rules will be told with disqualification from the comp and never invited back. Also a lot of carp have been taking lures of late and it is the duty of fishers to remove these vermin from the waterway. This Tournament is uniquely South Australian and Support for it will see a long and fruitful life for it. If large numbers of teams turn out in support then a second comp will be run in the lower Murray somewhere next year! This will make two legs for S.A.competitors an achievement in itself.

I'll have to have a chat with 'Captain' Ranger to see if he's keen ;) as with Chuck I've never caught Callop on lures (Although Chuck and I did do some trolling back in Dec 2005 at Hoggy for a dohnut :( ) in fact I've never caught a Callop ever so this would be a great challenge.

Cant wait for this Comp, BJ.

Is the BBQ provided free of charge to competitors - any hints as to what we can expect in goody bags BJ?

Let us know when the pre-paids and more information is out!

Mr willy no the Bar-b-que is not free to competitors as it runs to the same concepts as my bream classics. The hosts are organising the feed for you people and its not compulsory you eat the food either as you can supply your own! This is a concept that would show competitors supporting the local region the same region who supports competitors by providing a open arm attitude of welcome to you people. As for briefing bags once again I cannot say as Fishermans Paradise namely Keith and Nick are organising these for competitors. Its all up to the generosity of the trade whether you will get product or not. I have no say in these matters but try to do my best for the comp as best as I can. The posters will be printed by the end of next week and pre-paids will go on sale from then but with the amount of build up enquiries I'd say the 50 team format will be filled quickly for this event. So don't lag on entry because you may miss out!

Hey BJ!
Yeah I didnt think it would be free, but I heard on the grapevine that someone thought it would be free...
Might have to have a word in Nick's ear and get him to put some good stuff in those bags, ha ha!!

Cheers!

G'day chucky, impressive callop what size did that fish go?Great first fish congratulations! What is the spinnerbait make? As for numbers I won't know until the weekend or early next week when I come down to town for the bream qualifier at the port river. I'm just waiting for the trophy to arrive either today or tomorrow so I can show it off at the briefing on friday night for the bream guys and drum up some interest. I do know very few tickets have been sold up here in the Riverland and the interest up this way is not high. People cannot seem to look past trolling with a beer in there hand up here, shame! Wentworth comp is looking great and a lot of interest is being generated in Mildura over the event. Media interest has been high over the border(Vic.) Everyone interstate has had more time to adjust to this style of angling and this is reflected in there overall interest in the event thus far. I have however spoken to a few teams that have entered the event from town and also personally have sold pre-paids to both interstate fishing journalists and keen Adelaide hills residents as well. I personally have seven entries left for people if they are interested! I look forward to seeing everybody that supports this event either at the bream comp this weekend or at the comp itself next weekend.
Best Regards

I didn't register for this one, as like yourself (and PREVIOUSLY chuckbigfishseeker) I don't normally fish the fresh, and I've never thrown a lure around in the fresh before!

September is a pretty busy month for me, and at this stage I couldn't organise a second weekend off work just after the ABT, but I'll try to free up time for the next one so's I can make the boat available, and we can have a crack at em. I'll bring the donuts too! ;)

G'day people with just two days to go the atmosphere is building over this event with a lot of people entering at the last minutes. We welcome a new sponsor in Roe-Aire of Renmark who has graciously donated a $990.00 Engel Fridge as a prize for the biggest callop! The trophy a Hand Carved peice of a callop out of eastern red cedar has arrived and should have competitors keen on earning a place for there names on it. Of course only the Grand Champions of the series can earn that right. The grand final for the top two teams plus last years champions is to be decided yet for location and dates but will take place this year. I only wish W.A. had callop so the series could go there as well. See you all soon at Cobdogla on the weekend.
Best Regards

Well what a big weekend it turned out to be the running of the first leg of the Who's Yella? Callop Classic took place at Cobdogla S.A. on the weekend with eleven teams taking part. Total weight of fish caught and released was 61.24kilo's and total fish caught were 43. Biggest callop went 3.16kilo and was caught by Greg Souter on a gold Juro bibless rattler.5 fish over 2kilo were weighed in. The winning team of Joe Gorham and Greg Souter/Team Pacific-Tica caught 9 fish for 13.81kg. Runners up were team Vic-Boys- Graham Chique and Brenton Smith who caught 7 fish for 11.86 kilos. 3rd was last years champions Dion Johnson and Bronte Kent with 8 fish for 10.24kg. Every team in the comp won prizes and caught fish! Cobdogla C/Park provided roast lamb cooked in camp ovens on saturday night and also had egg+bacon sandwiches available on both mornings of the event. The winning team used a variety of gear. Greg Souter used a Starlo squidgy spin rod rated at 4-8kg paired with a Shimano Baitrunner 3000 reel while Joe used a Tica crisp x 3 to 5kilo rod matched to a Tica splendor 2500. Greg also used 10kg fireline with a 20lb vanish leader while Joe opted to use 12lb climax braid with 14lb vanish leader.Everyone seemed rapt with the event and next year looks to be bigger and better than ever! Don't forget Wentworth,N.S.W. is on the 13th and 14th oct 2007.
