Anyone have any weird/unusual stories of catching a fish.............
Funny you should mention it. One day while jetty fishing for bream at Lemmon Tree Passage NSW, i had one unlucky bream who managed to lasso itself up in my line, no hook penetration at all. Did the same with a lobster once off Port Kembla.

I’ve got a great story. I was pre-fishing for the Walpole round with Mitch Yellin in the tub. We were right upstream and Mitch hooked a bream on an Ecogear Pad Tue. The bream put up a fight and was coming to the boat, he had mates with him, about 3 or 4 who were following him.

As the bream came right near the boat he slowed down and we were about to net him when one of the other bream came from behind him, grabbed the Pad Tue out of his mouth, hooked itself and took off in the other direction right in front of us. Mitch landed the bream, two bream on one cast hehehehehehehhehe

I wonder what colour grenades he uses? gold, pumkinseed would probly be the goods ;) My mate caught a 40cm+ mullet that jumped into his boat while baitfishing the collie a few years back :)

While fishing with a mate of mine, he foul-hooked a Bream and dragged it to the boat. On closer inspection, the poor blighter had been pinned fair square through the "rear orifice"...didn't even touch the sides!!

Unlucky bloke was released teary eyed but unharmed and with his pride severly dented.

I caught an oyster on Sunday morning.

I was fishing (with bait) in the Barwon River estuary and was using a fillet of Salmon on a 4/0 beak hook (Elephant Fish and Mulloway were the intended target).
At one point I wound in to check my bait and found a large oyster (about 4 inches across) and a chunk of rock it was attached to on the end of my line, the oyster had got the hook and bait inside it and closed on them.

I used the oyster as bait on a smaller hook on another outfit and caught a small Salmon, thus completing the circle :-)

Caught a size cray every cast in Dongara in December.
Let all go, unsure of legality issues regarding area and licence etc.

I recall reading about a 20lb barra caught in NT some years back it was slightly deformed and had no eyes, makes you wonder how it last so long in the wild, Also makes you wonder about the importance of lure colours, it was caught on a 6 inch nilsmaster.

My mate was Marlin fishing with me one day & he got a 100 kilo Striped Marlin that was hooked in the bum. The fish sat behind the lures for a minute or so then went missing for a while then it came screaming in from the starboard to grab a purple Apollo we were trolling on the port side & as it crossed the short starboard line it got foul hooked & still grabbed the lure it was after & for a minute we had it hooked in the entry & exit holes :D Spat the mouth lure out then we spent ages reversing after it so we wouldn't drag it & drown it. The fish lived & Hound Dog the angler was then named "The Greek"

Did anyone ever creativly modify blowies before throwing them back?
Whilst snorkling in freo once i saw a school of blowies (nasty sight) and no kidding two thirds of them were either missing eyes tails other fins and in some cases parts of there head, all just swimming alond with the pack.
Quite a sight.

I witnessed a flathead of about 50cm's pulled in in two completely sepereate pieces...one half was hooked in the mouth and the other half was caught in the line(which had cut it in half). Both halves were under sizes so we threw it back! :D :D :D
(was a patenoster rig, drifting offshore with a big snapper lead)

Remember the old steel coke can's, when I was young I saw my dad's mate catch a fish using the ringpull still attached to his finger.
It was in the Hamersly Gorge in North Western Australia, I don't know what fish it was, possibly a tarpon:confused: don't jump on me:eek: if I am wrong it was fresh water.
He put the ring on his finger got a pair of pliers and cut the tin in to a fine sliver and put a piece of ham on it. He put his hand in the water and laid down on the rock/bank and a whole school dived on it.
One got stuck so he just lifted his hand out of the water and grabbed it, awsome to see, I worshipped that man after that.

Caught 2 bream on 1 lure, lure was a mini serge, I had a fish on & it was about 2/3's in when 1 of his mates tried to get the lure off him, both ended up caught(keep those front trebles on!), they were nearly identicle(twins? :D )

I've got another one!
I was really board one day, out on the water, with some mates, but not fishing as such. I'd swum in to a little inshore beach, with about 1 metre of line, a wine cork tied to one end and a tiny hook at the other. I berleyed up some little mullet (with bread), threw out the cork and line and watched from 2 or 3 of metres away, when the cork when under and started heading away from the beach I had to swim after it and grab the cork in order to land the fish! I got a few this way, lucky there were no bigguns about!

went after sum bass in the brissy river with the wand, we entered a pool which seemed to be pure fresh ........the water was only 1 or 2 feet deep (with a deep 1m hole on the other side)and crystal clear .............we knew that the river had lil bull's and river whalers in it but we thought we were to far up-stream of them ........as there was a very skinny water(less than 6 in's of water), rapids just a bit further down stream ...........as we were fishing away i made the coment that sharks couldn't get up here, as it was very hot i might go for a swim............just at that moment a small fin stared at me from 10m away ....and like a torpedo went strainght for me ....i wacked it on the head with the rod and ran across the water surface to the bank faster than a surf life saver on sterrods...............!

a change of fly later and safe on the bank , as i tried to catch him........next time i'll get him (the lil Bas$#%d),

Gday

I caught two herring on the one line once. The first herring got tangled in the line and another came up and grabbed the hook. It took me about 20 minutes trying to untangle them.:D :D

While fishing for tailor off the north mole, i managed to attract the attentions of a reasonable squid on a ganged mulie - being after dusk and not having a jig was making it unlikely to land the thing but i decided to 'use the force' - i managed to coax it in to the rocks, got down in the water and grabbed it, avoided the ink and !voila calamari!
