View Full Version : The Stinger is Here
Not what I expected hey guys. This thing has casting space to burn. Can't wait to get it on the water and try it out.
They've really used the hulls to give it plenty of width.

I wish Mike. It's the first time this has been sold in WA there are a few of us that have been pretty keen to see if it's any good. Proof will be once we get it on the water.
More toys :D

Oooh Bear... now that I've seen the pictures...! Gee that's a nice looking boat. Let us know in good detail how it handles on the water. Go for a fang and pull some sharp corners, would be interesting to see how a shallow tri-hull like that reacts.
Ohh and what's it rated to? 75hp or thereabouts?
We'll have the 75hp Honda, but it's actually rated to 90hp.
Should go like the clappers.
Man, cant wait to see that thing!!!
The pics wont work on my home computer, so i'll check it out from uni 2moro!
90hp rating. Man, thats the same as my mates 525 Stacer deep Evolution hull Runabout!!! Sheeeeiiiit. She is gonna move!

It won't corner like your standard v nose punts etc it should tilt slightly outwards like the cats do but kind of slides around corners, or atleast the fibreglass versions its' copying do.
We've just got it on a std trailer at the moment Nifty while the custom trailer is being built. We have a 50hp which we'll fiddle with while we wait for a 75 to arrive, but I'd like to get it out and runs some tests soon.
It's been sold in QLD for a while, but the test will be here in the Swan and places like Walpole.
It's really different.

g'day bear,
very, very nice! just curious to know why these type of boats & your previous one have the console to one side of the boat.is it for line of sight when you cruise up a bank or for more space at the front ?? offshore boats always seem to be in centre, more walk around room.just curious.
you,ll have to have some sort of lottery on a boaters day to sort out whos going on it !!
cheers

Not trying to answer for Bear, but the side consoles are common in smaller hulls where tiller steer isn't desired.
The idea is that it consumes less space and leaves more open area than a centre console would. Where you are mainly fishing with fly or lure there is a lot of casting and retrieving going on and flat open space is desireable, hence tuck the abreviated console over to the side. It is really just somewhere to mount the steering wheel and controls.
Quintrex Hornets have the same setup.
These are typically small boats, 3.5-5 metres and have hull shapes suited to calm water.
They aren't deep-vee offshore boats where the centre console design is a sensible compromise between shelter and fishing space in a hardcore fishmobile.
I'm surprised at how few are actually centre consoles. There is a feeling with a lot of people and manufacturers that the centre consoles actually leave you with less room.
To be honest, with a craft the size of the Stinger, the side console really isn't a huge issue.
My preference is centre consoles.
Hey bear, I read that in small boats, side consoles are used as they allow you to move about the boat along it's centre line (rather than around the edges) which is better for stability when at rest.
When planing, the boat is stabilised by its forward momentum and sitting out to the side should not cause the boat to lean too much. Although I've heard that in practise it still does.
To be honest, I haven't seen many small boats with side consoles. A lot of the smaller Quintrex boats do, but with the hull design I would have thought that the side vs centre balance issue wouldn't have been that big a deal.
Most of the other boats that have them are around the 4.6m+ size and it's been my experience that it's usually not that big a deal. That's usually with 2 people though.
As for the size of the boat, looking at the bream videos, we seem to be a little on the small size compared to the east. It was our first season though and it amazing how many guys now have bigger boats.
One of the reasons for looking at the bigger styles is the type of breamin we have here. Thjere are good flats at just about every system and the large size does make a difference. I think the bigger concern is how much water the boats draw. I've found the 4.65m boat to be more than nimble enough to handle the narrower sections of the river and only see it as a problem in extreme cases, something like the Deep River becomes.
Bear, I agree that bigger is better with any boat. As long as the boat can maintain a shallow draft (which a tri-hull or punt style should do) you should go for as big a boat as you can since it gives you so much more room, and far better rough weather handling (no shortage of rough weather over here).
Looking in that ABT magazine that came out a while ago, most of the top guys had 4.45m or larger boats. Most people here are fishing from smaller boats than that, but as interest grows, so will the boats.

I think most of you fellas know how I feel about the Stinger :D
I first clapped eyes on it early last year at the Sydney boat show - and fell in love......
I'm really keen to see how she goes Bear - make sure you give us a full report :D
Are you going to trick it up a bit ?
And.... does it have the (un-plumbed) removable alloy livewell up the front? I can't remember what the capacity was...
If you paint it Black once you're done with it, and put a 90 on the back, give me a yell - I'll swap you for a case of Little Creatures :D
Cheers,
As close to liquid gold as Little Creatures is, I reckon you'll need more than that to take this one away from bear. I'm thinkin the whole Little Creatures Brewery mate!:D
