A tackle shop near where I work is offering a terrific deal on a little fishing kayak called a Bass Master.
Has anyone heard of it and know anything about it or know where I can find more info about it (the guy in the shop wasn't able to help too much)?
Particularly I'd like to know its specifications (length, wieght, capcity, options etc).
Thanks

Not sure if this helps but I have an Australis Bass kayak. It might be what you mean. If so I think they are great. They are made by Australis operating out of Wollongong NSW. Weigh about 18kgs, are 2. something metres long and are as stable as you like. Also they are available in camoflauge colours. Approximate price $600 plus. There is a picture of such in Buschie and Starlos' book. Very comfortable and easy to get in and out of places. Can't rate mine highly enough.
Hope this helps

Thanks Titfish ...good name by the way !!!
I spoke to the another bloke in the store to get some detailed specs and he told me it was an Australis Bass.
The sort of water I will be fishing on is fairly open - Patterson River / Lakes in Melb - it's a medium sized river off which branch a series of man made lakes...not unlike some of the Gold Coast developments or Westlakes in Adelaide (weathers a bit crappier though!!).
Its a little exposed in part so can get choppy and it also takes quite a lot of boat traffic. How would the Bass handle such water or is it purely a small creek boat, also how is it to actually fish from ???

G'day Bry Bry,
The Bass would probably handle a bit of weather but I'm guessing a bit there as I'm lucky enough to have a tinny for fishing more open waters. The worst part of fishing bigger stretches is the amount of paddling required to cover any large amount of water.
As for fishing out of it it is fine. Compact but fine. I use it on bass water and carry two rods, and put my lure boxes between my legs. Behind the seat is enough room for other bits of stuff like your lunch, camera etc which, with a bit of practice you can reach behind and get at.
There is an article in "Fishing World" March 2003 on the Bass. If you can't get a copy I could copy the relevant section and post to you if you wish. Sorry I don't have the facility to scan. Will take a week or two if you are interested.
THanks for the call on the name. My mate actually came up with it to take the P... out of me. He who laughs last
Hope this helps
