overhead reel

i am hoping to buy this reel to use out of our tinny at places like port albert, manns beach and port welshpool, westernport,ect

it will be spooled with 50lb braid and am hoping to catch gummies, other sharks snapper and anything else big. i will be using it on a 6 or 8kg rod.

will this reel do the job i will use it twice a month if that, a friend brought a similar reel from the same ebay company, and said it was excellent until it got pulled of a rod holder at eden fishing for school sharks. he caught kingies, flatties and pinkies,


the main reason for purcashing is because i want a reel to catch a big fish, but i dont like the cost.

a local tackle shop were selling shimano overheads cheapest $200

this reel is $40.

Yep, at $40, it can't be that great. If your looking for a gummy/snapper, get the Shimano Tekota 700 and load it up with some 25lb braid. Put this on a 8kg rod and you'll be set.

The Tekota's are AMAZING value, your getting a $450 reel for only about $280. They'll handle up to 15kg with a max drag of 10kg. If you want a reel that'll last in offshore conditions, you can't be cheap, or else they'll crap out on you when you need them most. Spend the extra $$$ and get a good reel.;)

have to agree with the others, id prefer to try my chances on a shark with a quality 2000 sized spin reel than a $40 overhead, either way i dont think you have much hope:D
and yeah 50lb braid on a 8kg rod is a bad idea, if your using drag pressure up around 35-40lb chances are neither your reel or rod will take it and you will end up in tears. no fish and broken gear:(
