reasonable price.....what do you call reasonable?? what i call reasonable someone else might call expensive or vice versa. give us some ball park figures and we should be able to help. i think the daiwa airity is reasonably priced for what you get

well i was thinking around the 100 - 150 price range. i know i should save up and buy a better 1, but im getting tired of using my little abu.

The Okuma Epix is around that price and for around $20 more, you can get the Daiwa laguna which is a top reel.
Talk to Geoff P about it mate!

The Shimano Aernos seems a very nice reel, and its not too dear either. less then $100 :)

Get a Daiwa Laguna 1500. Awesome value for money, handles Fireline well, 7BB and very smooth - great drag system too. Around the $170 mark... metal bodied as well. Worth spending the extra bucks for sure...

Go the Okuma Epix 20 :D

It may be a touch large for what you need but I don't find it a problem.

Another option could be the Okuma Avenger 15. It's well under $100, a sweet size, and really puts the anchors on fish - the 5 year warranty can't be beat :)

Admittedly, it's not the prettiest of reels, but I think mine would've accounted for over 200 Bream easy - with next to no maintenence from me (yes I'm a slack arsed barstard :D ), and the drag is as good as the day I bought it.

Cheers,

I`d probably go a Laguna or an Avenger, Ive never used a laguna but Ive heard they are a top little reel. I use and Epix 20 and think they are pretty awesome and fall into your price range, but check if you like the weight of it though. Then Id say an Avenger for sure, which im actually using as my main reel - great reel for $75 odd, and like Dave said you cant go wrong with the 5 year warranty.

cheers

I've got a Samuria, which is interanally very similar to the Laguna (i think), but the laguna has better quality internals. The body is also much better. Mate, get the best reel you can afford. if you can afford the laguna, i really don think you can go wrong.

Butters,

We've got one only brand new Stradic 1000FG at $215. It is the last of the superseeded model that we are selling at near cost. It will save you around $70 off new price.

Call Geoff in the store on 9271 0555 if you're interested.

Warren.

Hi Butters,
With the new stradics (FH) out you should be able to pick up a 1000FG for around 190-200 bucks.
Thats the kind of deals they are doing on the east coast anyway.

cheers for the input boys, Youre life savers.

im seriously considering that Stradic 1000FG that warren mentioned, and the Okuma Epix. both top reels , would love another stradic, but as i mention cash is an issue atm, so i think the Epix might come as the victor, all depends if i can get some cashy jobs this week .:D

Even an Okuma Avenger for around 80-90 if you need to go a bit cheaper.
I have never had a problem with an Okuma....touch wood;)

the laguna is a very good real and at a good price of about $180
7 BB 1 Rb i have just got one and have been using it heaps it's very smooth and has one of the best drags i've seen in a reel for awhile, but the pion gear is sleaveless- this means that it is not supported by a sleeve that sticks out from the side internals......the reels that do have this are the 2001/02 daiwa regal s/x/z........ series which just gives a little more stabillity on the main drive gear........ but besides that it's great...... the kastor is another good option at $130/$150....... personelly i think u pay to much for a stella or other shimano high quality reels..... so DAIWA have just as good reels for half the price...........just remember the more bearing in the reel the more things that could go wrong with it......

Mike,

what is the difference between the X and the Z models in the regals 1500's. I picked up an X a couple of months ago for about 80 bucks and have been really happy with it.

I have noticed Diawa have the X and Z notation running through reels & rods, is just a componentry level flag.

Trevor

Z is the big bucks variant - All the good features and materials
X is the mid level variant - Most of the good stuff
S is the low level variant - Some good stuff

gday
yeah i also have the x i find it a great little reel and as pw bream said its just the components in the reels.

DIAWA REGAL Z

Aluminum ABS spool
BailSafe™ system locks bail open on outcast
Up to five ball and roller bearings
Ball bearing line roller
Advanced Locomotive Levelwind for even line winding
Infinite Anti-Reverse eliminates handle back play for solid hooksets
Twist Buster™ line twist reduction
Lifetime® bail spring
Gyro Spin® balanced
Right/left reversible folding handle

and it says that the diawa regal s has the same features except it has 3 ball bearings and one roller bearing and the z has 4 ball bearings and 1 roller bearing.
