I'm totaly new to river fishing so any advice would be a great help. Ive bought some 1.5gm/#4 jigs and #2 squidgy wriggler 65mm jelly prawns. I tried them out under the Middle Swan Bridge. Didn't catch any fish but it was a great way a spend a hot afternoon.
My questions are, am I using the right gear and am I likely to catch bream or flathead so far up the river? Would I be better off around Guildford or Bassendean or do I need to to be further down around the Belmont, Maylands area. I live in the hills so would prefer to fish this side of Perth.
Thanks in advance.
John
hi rooster. I'm in the Hills as well. Best to try around Ascot, Garret rd Bridge and Redcliffe at the moment. Not sure how the guys in Guildford are going, but you can get some nice Bream there as well.
Don't hesitate to drop us a line if you want to tag along for a fish. The more the merrier.

Rooster, there should be good fishing there in the coming months but as Bear says, Guildford down is the go right now.
In terms of gear, try some of the smaller plastics and Gama jigs. If you dont want to go right over the top (ask Richo, he orders his by the tonne now, not the packet) you could try with a basic selection such as:
pumkinseed slider
muscadine slider
amber fat grub
Gamakatsu Round 25 1/16th # 2 hook jigs
And definitely consider getting out with some of the guys or even being in the BREAM comps.
Good luck

Thanks Bear and Craig for the info. I would be real pleased to meet up for a fish some week day.

Not a drama John. When you feel like heading out, just drop me or Bear a PM and we'll get something organised. I guess the Chrissie break is hard for everyone but early Jan I'll be back on track.
