Bread on the fly

Does anyone have a favourite pattern for bread flies,
i'm thinking about chasing schools of small fish (mullet,bream,trevally and possibly tilapia) and am havin trouble tying a fly that not only floats but actually resembles bread as well. im open to any suggestions.:)

Nope, the fish I target don't eat bread ;) .

I do know of some bread flies that have had some success from other forums though. These include one with a small foam head, and involves palmering a small strip of white zonker down the shank. Whatever you're doing, since you're targetting small fish, I'd be using a light wire hook (easier to get the buoyancy and also better hooking potential). Don't be too fussed if your bread fly sinks slowly. More often than not, the fish'll be waiting for it to sink a little before going at it; duck ponds are a typical example of this. Fish don't like competing with birds and such, and especially don't want to appear obvious if there's the possibility of predatory birds in the vicinity.

PS If you're using a fly with a fairly solid body, be aware that you may be closing the gape of the hook, and thus reducing the likelihood of hooking the fish.
