when tying a uni knot to a HB lure i have found that the knot always slips because i am tying it an inch or so above the towing point which supposively allows for a better action. Am i doing something wrong ?
That's pretty much to be expected when using a uni knot for a loop knot. You can use them for this, but they need to be done up really tight to avoid slippage. They will probably still slip when you catch a fish anyway.
The best bet is to use a knot like a lefties loop knot (that's what I use) or a perfection loop to tie your lure on. These are designed to form a loop that stays open and are still very strong knots.
People say the perfection loop is stronger, but I've never broken either without a lot of effort so choose whichever one looks easiest to tie.
Cheers
James.
Where can we find a pic of the perfection loop?

(Remember GIYF - google is your friend ):D
so far i havent had a problem with the uni knot. i add 2 or 3 more turns than usual though. the only annoying part is the loop just slides dow wen you get a fish.
hope that helps

I thought I was using the Perfection Loop, I was tieing it from memory, I checked in a book and found I was doing it wrong, turns out what I was using was more like "Lefty's Loop Knot".
This is a simpler knot than the Perfection Loop and easier to tie.
Rod Harrison thinks it is the best loop knot for lures.

It is what I use now and it is easy to do and doesn't seem to have any inherent problems.

Which is why its great for me n craig, we are but simple folk.
Rapala recommends the same knot in the leaflet inside lure packaging. I think they know what they are doing...
