Hi Karl,
Congratulations mate! How good is that!!
It was an absolute pleasure fishing day one with you champ, and I am stoked that you took advantage and made the Final 5. Great work.
Shame I couldn't repeat the performance myself.
Imagine how we would have done if the leccy hadn't played up.
Take it easy mate and go the CK40!!....WA Vampire all the way :-)
Byron
Thank you all for your kind words and support, much appreciated :D
And a really big thanks to all of the WA guys that were over there with me for all of their support and good advice. Everyone chipped in and helped me, and the great WA team atmosphere was an experience that I rate as the absolute highlight of the trip, thanks guys :D :D :D
So close .... and yet so far!!! I caught plenty of bream in the top 5 shoot out, but just couldn't find the size fish!!
I was over the moon anyway, just getting into the top 5 and winning $1,000 was fantastic :D
I'm looking forward to the Summer Night Series and the many comps coming up in the next 12 months ....... who knows what might happen next year ;)
and a big congratulations to Szarn, what a beauty of a boat he won, I can't wait to see it zipping around the Swan. Well done Szarn!!!
I look forward to seeing you all out on the water soon :D
Thanks
Karl

Well done Mate - It was a real buzz seeing you do so well against some top gun anglers (maybe the odd nose was put out of joint :D ). The WA team over there was a top group of guys - willing to share gear, locations, techniques etc wherever possible in contrast to some of the egos that where floating around ;)
This will really help put WA anglers on the map and I can see us doing better and better in future GF's. Taking home the NB boat thanks to Szarn was icing on the cake :D
Great trip and can recommend anyone who gets the chance to go to a GF to go for it - you learn heaps and rub shoulders with the high profile anglers from the east. I got to fish with Chris Wright on day 2 on his prostrike. Couldn't wipe the grin off my face and a really nice bloke to top all that info I gleaned from him.
Well done to all. I really think we did our State proud this GF considering we were fishing a foreign system for a species we have never seen before.
Cheers

Mark Ward (QLD) kindly loaned his Green Machine poly with 30 horses out back for Karls' day 1&2 chariot. Served him well but didn't quite compare with the Stratos for the shootout:p
Karl & Szarn are the highest placed West Aussies ever, was fantastic to be there and soak up some of the reflected glory.

Thanks guys, it was a sensational result for WA breamers!!!
Byron you're a legend, thanks again for your day 1 performance. I'm glad I was able to find the fish on day 2 and capitalise on our day 1 result. Likewise it was a pleasure having you on board :D
A very big thanks to a top bloke Mark Ward, for lending me his Green Machine poly (great photo's Mark :D ). An extremly generous offer when you've never even met the bloke you're loaning your boat to, you're a champ Wardy. And thanks to Tim Morgan for the Stratos on the last day, very much appreciated.
Also congratulations to Steve Duff on his well deserved win, and to the other guys that made the top 5, Mango, Russell Babekuhl and Wishey, well done to all :D
Cheers
Karl
You should be proud of yourself Karl. Fantastic effort.

Although it was a tough event, it was great to see the bream final bring together a great bunch of anglers from all over the country. The gun anglers or locals certainly didn't dominate the event, and it was good to see anglers from nearly every state make the shootout.
Well done Karl and Szarn, great work on yellowfin in a foreign system, up against the best bream anglers in the country.
Also well done to all the WA contingent travelling all the way over. You guys did your state proud, hope you had a ball and learnt a bit along the way.

Matt, for many of us the journey was made possible by the generosity of the QLD/NSW guys who made boats available.
Cold calls from a bloke in WA, nobody had ever heard of, were met with positive enthusiam and a genuine desire to help out. Support also came in the form of advice on tackle and tactics.
I am sure we all learnt a lot, and are itching to try out new techniques on our blackies. The WA team travelled with a great spirit, made some great contacts, found the Richmond system challenging but had a fantastic time.
We all have stories to tell and a few angling firsts, like monster flatties and EPs. Armed with a little bit of yellow fin knowledge, most are keen for another raid next year.
cheers and thanks for your help
Mark
Well done to Karl and Szarn.
The Richmond river is a tough place to fish this time of the year, it was a close nail biting competition, where 1 or 2 fish caught or missed could make a huge difference to your day.
It was great to catch up with you again Don, and hope to see you in our travels next year.
A big thanks to the WA boys(in the cabin next to me) for not partying to hard on the night before the shoot out for the Skeeter.
I had a great nites sleep, Thanks boys.
