G'day all,
Has any one had much success with bream on the halco poltergeist lures. I have a pink one which I bought for flatties but the big bib has put me off casting it for bream. I ask this question coz I saw a nice gold one in a forbidden tackle shop and was wonderin if my money was best put into a more proven lure from a more proven tackle shop (ie. bm). Its just the deepest diver I've seen.

If your fishing really deep areas (bridges) or the flats, than i would recommend the Poltergiest. i have the gold and orange one, and it is not a bad lure at all.
The tilsan range is also worth looking at!!!
Its up to you.
I dont know whether Warren will be stocking the Poltergiest or not, so until then you'll have to buy elsewhere (unfortunately)!!!

Cheers dave,
I have a tilsan in the gold (i think its a minnow) To date its been my most productive lure. Maybe I'll just get a spare one of them.

Do you reckon the extra large bib on the Poltergeist is a put off for our cunning ole bream.

Nah i dont personally.
I dont think the fish can see it. on the flats it is handy as the bib will make good puffs of sand on the bottom which will attract fish!!!
I'd definately get another tilsan, whether it be a Bass or a Minnow!

Hi

The only gripe i have is the poltergeist is when i stop the retrieve it backs out of spaces. I know its more for bass and heavily wooded spots but when i stop my retrieve i have a lue that goes tail first. The rise isnt a nice gentle level but the tail rises first and then moves slightly backwards.

You only need to add a little bit of weight in the rear to remedy this situation, not tooo much

The other thing i found was if i did a side cast, casting from a horizontal plan i got the trebles caught on the main line or all together.

i like the side to side action my 6'6" graphite stick is vibrating when im retrieving it. The crazy depths you can achieve is brillant excellent for big drop offs. working along the edge and skipping it over into the deep very close to cover very good.
Working regular strip of water needs to be done slowly as the lure dives deep and then rises and then dives deep.

Probably good if you see the action and rise rates in a pool or under some controlled conditions.

russ, i believe that poltergiests just dont have a fish catching shape, myself and many have agreed, i like to stick to something like scorps 52's or minnows and basses, they've got fish catching wwaggles and shimmies, catcha

I managed to pick one up for $4 at K-Mart as they were being cleared.
I agree that they don't seem the ideal Bream lure but I couldn't resist that price. Worth a go I reckon.

My mate has given the poltergeist a go the last couple of trips around the snags and has a few nice hits but no hook-ups. Was using the pink fluro pattern and it dives quickly then a real slow retrieve with only a couple of pauses does the trick thinking back the middle treble wasnt on it and none of the hits hooked up???

I have had three good hits on poltergiests and three times have initially thought that the hooks pulled after a short run only to find the lure has come away from the bib. Bass do love em don't know about the bream.

Has anyone tried changing the polt. to more suit their needs, cause I've been toying with the idea of shaping the bib smaller, and changing the weight, then use it as you would a scorp 52.
Give you a different action to have if they are ignoring everything else.
Or then again it might just f#¿k a perfectly good lure................

Hi Madfish

I see you have taken the middle taken out how come.

There are alot of postings concerning the middle either it comes loose or bream not taking it. The action isnt radically different (ok side to side it is) but to the other lures in the Halco stable not strangely different. I wonder why the middle is a point of contention.

Cheers
