The other day on the Parra i walked down to an old spot and found a school of Big Bream guessing they were from 30cm to 50cm and the biggest two just over 50cm. They were hanging around an old pylon, and there isn't much room to cast. What lure/colour/size/weight would you use in this situation??
I was thinking an atomic babycraw on a 1/32 jig head or a #2squidgy wriggler, but i'm not too sure what retrieve i should use. Theres no use trying hardbodies as there isn't enough room to retrieve them so i have to go plastics.
Any help would be greatly appreciated...

Id go through the lot mate, start with the obvious like pumpkinseed and muscadine sliders, Ive also seen kingpin use craws to great effect around pylons as well, also crawdad chartreuse fat grub would be worth a crack.
They are a beauty to watch when they are chewing on pylons, Ive watched in awe in several spots around Perth at that.

Hi luringbrrream
stick to a light weight such as 1/32 and use a soft plastic that flutters well on the drop if you can get a good vertical drop on the possi. It is highly likely they'll touch it on the drop and you'll only pick that up if you watch the line carefully. Even bowed Fireline will show tiny little twitches but by the time you feel the tap they will have dropped the lure again. If you notice the twitches just raise the rod tip and your on, it's that simple but frustrating to master.
I prefer natural coloured Squidgies (Bloodworm) and Sliders ( Pumpkinseed & Muscadine)
If you can get a short retrieve in then give it tiny twitches

Hi l'bream,
If you can see them, it means the fish are feeding near the surface so a 32nd or less is a good choice.
I'd go for a small single tail grub, or something similar that has a lot of tail action as it falls.
Using something like a crappie spider will also help slow the descent down further so the lure stays in the strike zone longer.
As for retrieve, you don't really need one.
Usually it's just a matter of dropping the lure in as close to the structure as you can, and watching your line for indications of a bite as the lure falls. Sometimes you might want to lift your rod tip so the lure rises then let it fall again, but if it doesn't get hit straight away just keep dropping it in different spots until it does
Hey.
As richo said, i've used Baby Craws to some effect around pylons. Basically, use as light a jig head as possible, and drop the Craw in front of them. They normally hit it straight away. With these, presentation and colour is everything as there is no action so choose carefully. My personal favourite is the Watermelon red Fleck made by Atomic! It may be different over east but i have had a hell of a lot of success on them!:D
Also, as mentioned above, try a grub that flutters a lot on the drop. Again my personal favourite is the Atomic grubs in Gold Glitter, Amber, and also any red grubs or twin tails (availiable from this site!).
Just Remember, with the Craws, Presentation and colour is EVERYTHING!!! I cant stress this more.
