This may be a stupid question, but with bow mounted sounders where is the transducer placed, is it mounted of the electric or another sort of bracket,or do you mount it off the transom and run the cable up.Also is there a sounder or can you mount a normal transducer to face out on the horizontal.

From what I have seen you put the transducer the central housing of the leccy, in front of the prop. Chock it up on a block of wood to reduce vibrations. Do a search on the site, I believe this has been asked and answered a couple of times even with pics. I am sure someone who has actually done it will give you the low down.

thanks shane, in the photos it shows the transducer mounted on a the traditional vertical plane.Do you know if its possible to mount it on the horizontal plane so that you can pick fish up on the banks/snags that you are casting out to

God knows. I have even mounted the sounder Mark has lent me. Give it a go. If I remember when I take my boat out next to test the sounder, transducer will be on a stick, I will try it out ;)
Humminbird actually do a side scanning transducer. This is what i have fitted to the bottom of my Kota..You can actually retro fit the side transducer to older units also but they have to be suited. Not all units are comatable.
Hope this helps:)
