Environets

What size Environets do you guys use and recommend?

Long or Short handle, small or large head?

I got mine just before christmas from Anglers Anonymous in Canningvale. I bought a large long handle variety and so far it has served me extremely well. I have stopped losing fish when tyrying to land them.

Have been using the large, long-handled variety for about 2 months. Mine is all mesh, with no solid plastic. Took some getting used to, as they drag a LOT in the water. You really have to swim them in. They are gentle on fish and more lure friendly than knotted nets. But I wouldn't say they are the bees knees. Personally, I would prefer the plastic mesh had larger holes to cut the drag factor.

Never having used an Environet (I've checked them out though), is there anything to stop some cluey angler from hacking and stitching some shade cloth and putting it on a $10 net frame??

It beats paying $80+ (for the model I was looking at) but would it be as effective??

I might have to give it a go this week, I'm pretty handy with a sewing machine;) (don't ask:D)

I thought exactly the same thing, shade cloth sewed up the same shape as the enviro.

I'm on a pension and $80 smackers is a lot. And I have a few old landing net frames without nets, it might not be as good as the original environet but it would have to beat the normal net hands down.

I watched Starlo's flatties on his squidgie video and mine don't play so meek and mild before I release them !!!
And I hate taking scales of or damaging fins.

I've looked into getting them on the site. We have access to them via the local agent, but the logistics of posting them out is a bit of a nightmare. If you guys have access to a welder, I can get them into an Express Post pack now worries...:p :p :p

I have thought about the shade cloth thing myself, and I'm also looking into sourcing some decent rubberised mesh. If I have any joy with this, I'll look into selling it on the site by the metre for some DIY mesh nets.

Another option that I was thinking about could be a shade or rubberised cloth material, pre-formed into the net shape that would attach to a 'basic' net frame with clips or ties or something - you'd have no troubles posting that:D

Doesn't sound like a bad little sideline for someone to get into:rolleyes: ;) Interested?:D
