View Full Version : Netters in the Preston River

Went for the first shore bash in a long time tonight, and after 15 minutes it was spoilt by some square hookers draggin their "death line" across the railway bridge.

I know there is a zone after the last railway bridge in which netting is allowed, but it still annoys the hell out of me. This river is under enough pressure, let alone the mouth being spanned by a net.

If it wasn't getting dark, and having two busy train lines to cross in 50 metres to get to the end of the net, I would have hooked it up to the towball on the Mav, and dragged it away with me...

I can't wait until the jet boat is ready, as it will be perfect for dragging a spike behind to "retrieve" any nets I might encounter.

They may be allowed to net there after dark, but it is still a water passage in which boating is allowed after dark.

Might have to get some Khaki and black water based paints from the art shop to disguise the tub...

How many seconds did the guy allow himself to spray the paint off that van in "The Jackal".

I have the high pressure water spray in the shed...hehehe

ps. who added s.h.i.t. to the banned word list, next you want be able to type I'm an idiotI'm an idiotI'm an idiotI'm an idiot..hehehe

Thanks Nath,

Another good thing about this site is that even the creator isn't immune from having a post or two deleted...

In all fairness, there was a bit happening behind the scenes (not breammaster scenes) that the mods weren't aware of.

I am the fairest guy on the face of the planet, but when people I have thrown a olive branch / lifeline out to, throw it back in my face, that's when my interest in being "Mr Diplomatic" goes out the window.

Let's just say a few people have been called into line, and leave it at that.

Warren.

Have a look at 2006 Net fishing rules http://www.fish.wa.gov.au/docs/pub/NetFishing/NettingRules2006-01.pdf page 40

says "Recreational set netting is allowed in the Leschenault Estuary (minus exclusions) on Wednesday and Friday nights....."

That means netting is not allowed on Sunday nights.....

Worth a call with the info to Fishwatch 1800 815 507 http://www.fish.wa.gov.au/sec/feed/fishwatch/index.php

A year or so back I rang the fisheries hotline about netting in the exact same spot. After leaving 3 messages I got a call back by a fisheries officer explaining that the Estuary side of the train bridge is fair game 7 days a week. And then told me to call back if they drop the net on the other side which is illegal. For factual purposes the bridge is no more than 5 metres wide :S

We cannot say that the Fisheries guys don't care and never do anything about netting in the rivers!

I well recall meeting a couple dudes in a dingy down the Donnelly one day!

They turned out to be a couple Fisheries Officers, checking for illegal netting!

They do look occasionally, but probably not at the times most normal people would be fishing for bream.

I even know someone got stopped and checked while fishing the Barley brook for trout!

Cheers!
