Ive seen sufix matrix pro for 29 dollars in my local tackle store, is it worth using ahead of fireline? Could anyone tell me if they have used this line and what you thought of it???

Firelines not a Braid. Its a fused line.

Im not very happy with the new Firelines performance lately. If you havnt used it before give it a go. But if you have try something different so you can compair..

cheers, Nathan

Thats so cliche- "try fireline!"

Guys you should all be trying new things and getting what you think is better suited for your needs.

I can tell you matrix pro is way better in my opinion than fireline. For starters its the sufix version of fireline XDS and it whoops the rear end off that too. It was brought in as a model up product from sufix hydrofine which is very comparable to fireline. Now as far as i know hydrofine isnt being made and matrix pro supplies were very short when it was released due to popularity.

Fireline would always break my leader knots as its hardness would cut the flourocarbon when my jighead snagged up. With matrix pro its soft and usually the jighead knot breaks before anything else.

I use the simple uni to uni joining knot and it hasnt failed me yet in social or competition.

Its softer, holds its colour longer and is thinner in diameter than fireline. 10lb matrix pro is the diameter of 4lb fireline but its a rounded braid not flat like others. Therefore it does seem bulkier.
8lb matrix pro is so fine i was worried about it with knots but its all holding together fine. I used it today and its got me into a very healthy position going into day two of the WABT round two comp.

The bottom line is try it and make your own decision.

Cant honestly say ive done one mate. Im not familiar with it.

I just use the same one ive been using for years. Uni to uni six turns each side and pull tight. Works fine for me.

29 bucks is a good price for it too, it usually is supposed to retail for over thirty

It's a very difficult area. All anglers will have a method that works for them.

I'd ask, what knots are you going to use?

I've been using fireline for a long time and have used some other lines. It's very tough to compare.

I agree, the old "try fireline" is pretty much not a necessity. I think it comes from the fact that it is a good line.

If I were you, I'd try the matrix and see how it goes. I have yet to try it, but once I'm done with this little batch of fireline on my reel, I'll be trying some other lines for a change. Part of it is because I'm bored of using the same line all the time.

There's no yes or no in using certain gear, lines, SPs, HBs, etc. It is what works for you and what you're happy with in the end.

Personally matrix

Why: Matrix has lower memory in casting light lures

I would have a look all the braids

You can prevent tangles and birds nests if you keep an eye and maybe some finger tension on the initial part fo the retrieve.

Braids break all over the place. Many of the braids are double the breaking strain stated because of the inconsistency of strength in the product.

About the only company that does a prestest is platypus and that maybe a special order via a club or similar.

The platypus pretest pearl mono 2kg is beautiful to cast.

Fishing 2kg braid could be in the vicinity of 6kg line..

Enough to catch a decent mulloway (15kg+) in the open..
