tackle bags - and others

About 12 months ago I covered there in an article I did for DohDohDoh. I got chatting to a guy today and the subject happened to turn to these and how good they are.

So, for those of you who have never seen these b4, check out the tackle bags from Plano. They are about $80 to $90 and come with 5 large boxes. To me that's great value for money.

If you've had a look at them and not quite yourr taste, let us know what you use.

I told my wife I wanted a new tackle box for Xmas. :) I'll need another just to hold all my new plastic toys.

How large are the boxes, Bear?

Also, tonight I was watching Buschy on RHFA, and he had a nice type of vest on that had a heap of pockets etc. That looks like something I could put to good use too.

Have you reviewed those?

The trays are of the largest size. Notice the popper in the box. Was my lucky one at Thevenard. They do have a big range of sizes now.

Can you remember what the jacket brand was Kevin?

they look good
but the othe r day i went on a trip to bigw for some bluefox squidgies and i came across a tackle bag the brand was no limits i havent heard of it before but it came with 6 tackle boxes inside and it was only 40 dollars good value i reckon there also very conveinent:)

Nah...sorry Bear. I couldn't make out the brand. Although, maybe it had to be a Rex Hunt brand if it was on his show. :)

I notice Buschy and Starlo haven't appeared using Squidgies on the show yet. :)

I saw a bag today by Tackle Logic that looked exactly like Bear's photo except it had another section on top of the trays where you could stuff all your general gear like spare reels, line drink bottles etc. Looked really good except it struck me as a bit pricey at $110.

I love the 'multi-tray' bag concept, but I'm not fond of the shape or (lack of) spare room in the Plano's.

I picked up a pretty normal gear bag (with fishing logo's of course) that has 2 huge zippered compartments on the end.

The internal pocket fits 5 large Plano trays, plus a chopping board, plus a 'Decor' plastic container that is wide/high enough to fit full soft plastics bags - about 40 of them actually:D, I use one of the zippered compartments for reels/spare spools and the other one for sundries, knives, rags etc.

I also put my sounder head in the main part of the bag, plus my livewell pump.

The beauty of this system is that you only ever have to put in the bag what you need for the day.

I've also got an over the shoulder canvas 'laptop' style bag that fits 2 of the largest Planos, plus a couple of smaller ones - perfect for walking and fishing the banks.

I'll take a pic of my bag next time I'm out and post it up.

I have one of the smaller Plano bags (cant remember the exact model, but it is Green). It is quite good for mobile fishing but have found it to be a bit small when I go out on a non-species specific trip, does not hold everything I think I might need!

I am uprgading to the larger PLano shown in the Photo, mainly to hold the 100000000000000000 plastics I currently have. In fact I might need 2 or 3..............

Yeah, Ive got one like in the picture a year or so back and have been totally happy with it. It carries 4 medium plano boxes filled with various lures/tackle for all sorts of fishing which fit sideways allowing heaps of room beside it for other stuff and room on top for reels etc. I use the front pocket for pliers, knives etc and one side for spare line and the other side for camera, scales, binoculars etc.

I use the big bag on non specific trips and source out of the big bag when bream fishing and put what i need in shoulder bag so I dont have to lug the big one everywhere. This system works for me and makes the fishing easier but it still doesnt make the fishing more successful.

G'day guys,
I was in Bunnings Warehouse (hardware retail chain here) and i found lookalike plano boxes in the large size going for 1.99 each so i grabbed 7 of them. They are wormproof and have good hinges and locks. For the life of me i cant see the difference from the ridgy didge plano boxes to these apart from stickers and motiffs.
Two aisles down there was a no name shoulder bag/ ruck sack in cordura nylon that fitted 8 of these boxes neatly so i just had to go back and get the last box heheh
Total outlay was 32 dollars and its just big enuff for my small lure collection.
The bag also has velcro closing flaps and each flap has a pocket inside it i am using for leader, pliers, and measures. My scales hang on the outside of the bag with a loop.

I never thought i could get that sort of setup form the local hardware but im glad i stumbled accross it tho.

Good one Tony, that's the sign of a true tackle rat - keeping your eyes peeled, no matter where you are, for anything you can apply to fishing:D

I did something similar when we went to Thevenard this year. Found these bags at Bunnings. They hold the premade rids perfectly. I wrap them around foam and store them in the bags until needed.
