suggestions for electric for canoe

Hi Guys,
As much as I'd love a 445 Wildfisher or similar for the time being its my trusty Coleman canoe. A friend has lent me his tiller mount Minn Kota 27lb thrust electric which gives me a jammy little unit for "stealth fishing".
When I need to cover a bit of ground however the 27 is painfully slow (paddling speed at full throttle). Has anyone tried 40 or perhaps 50lb thrust on a canoe and how does it go.

I think you can get a tiller steer Minn Kota for around $500. I used to have one on my Edgetracker. I think they are 45lb thrust.

That'd get you going.

Mate i used to do alot of fishing from a canoe before i upgraded to a boat and some of my most memorable captures were from the canoe. I had a 3.6mtr canoe with a minn kota 40lb riptide and i could not use the 5th speed it was too scary:D

I picked this canoe up for $200, gave it some TLC with new paint job. Ended up getting $400 for, without the electric of course.

who'd ya go with stability with batteries etc? is it a glass or one of the old wooden ones.

Actually there my rods, that was my rod holder that also held my sounder in place.

Stability was good. had a 90amp battery sitting in the middle of the canoe, usually fished with 2 blokes and gear, a fair bit of weight for a 3.6m canoe but it went well. It was a fibreglass canoe.

how did the battery hold up to usage during a fishing trip? Is there enough juice to travel around and fish all day or did you have to paddle between spots and use the electic to navigate around structure when fishing. I'm getting tempted to get a setup like that.

sorry mate i was stirring about the outriggers.
being glass you could of glassed 2 stabilizer fins to the front to help with stability at speed,bit like a hydrofoil.good thing with glass is that you can experiment and dont have to drill holes etc.
you can actually get false keels made as well.

Mate i could fish no problems with the 90am battery, i now use the same battery on my boat with 46lb bowmount electric and get 7-8hrs no problem with it.
