G'day Johno13,
I have found that with hard bodys a retrieve rate no faster than walking pace will produce the goods lure action is the clue tho
the lure should have a fairly fast tight wobble action and will hang in the water column or slowly sink or lift. Fast sinkers i have had no luck with yet but some surface lures will get hit.
Generally i keep a constant retrieve with h/b's but around reefs i might do the occasional stab and pause during a retrieve to let them know its ready for eating heheh
My preference is for either natural colourations or strong darker colours deep reds and the like my fav bream h/b is a baby attack in red with black blotches followed by a baby merlin in fishskin colour.
Hope this helps a bit Johno

gday mate
one thing i have learnt is that the retrieve needs to be slow with a few twitches here and there.
]thanks michael
G'day Johno,
I'll let Ira and the plastics experts tell you their tips, I'm still finding my way a bit.
I've been fishing mainly hards and done well. I find the best method is to twitch your lure a few times after the cast. Deep or shallow diving, I have had more than a few Bream hit the lure on the pause after the first couple of twitches.
From there, I either slow retrieve or continue with a series of twitches, depending on the fishing. It's a good idea to stall the lure every so often as the following Bream will usually have a hit out of curiosity if nothing else.
HTH.

G'day
Get hold of a shrimp crawfish, Bounce it slowly along a sandy botton, especially if there are yabby holes, and hang on!

hi
when using hardbodies i like a dead slow retrieve with plenty of stops starts and twitches.
when using softplastics i like to lift the lastic about three foot in the water using my rod tip and let it sink to the bottom then i wind in the slack i find that the majority of the fish will hit the plastic when it is falling back to the bottom.:)

Johnno, I reckon thats the original $64 question there and its incredibly hard to describe how its done. Most guys will just say its "twitch, twitch, bang" lol.
I think the easiest way to pick it up is to go with some people who are trying the same thing and actually seeing what works and what doesnt. If you're in Perth, there is always a group of guys going out at some stage. If you're keen just drop me or Richo or Bear a line and get stuck in. Also I would hugely recommend having a bash at one of the BREAM competitions. Beyond the fact that they are big fun its a great way to pick up new tips. There is a comp in Walpole 1/2 Feb and one in Perth in March I think. If you're interested in those get hold of Ira from FishingWA (www.fishingwa.com). Dont be put off by being new to it, these comps are designed for everyone.
Good luck with it
Craig
