For anyone interested, I purchased a Motorguide bow mount and used it over the last few days. I can tell you this is one hell of a donk. It worked fantastic, it responds instantly has plenty of grunt and best of all it was 300 odd dollars cheaper than a Minn Kota. It is construction is far superior to that of a Minn with little or no plastic to break.
Well worth considering.
If you keen to get one contact Mandurah Outboards and ask for Paul King.

I'll second that as well.
Mine got its first serious workout over the weekend also. I'd give it a 5 star rating for sure.
Mine was organised by the very lovely Vikki at Portside Marine but:D

I have a Motor Guide as well as I love it. Can creep in & out of snags no worries & it pulls my Hornet around just nice. The price is very good compared to a Minn Kota. Fitted an anode to it as well.

Hey Ravin - who did the anode - you or the shop ?
Where is it ..... can you post a pic - or send me one by Email.

Is it now covered under warranty for salt water use ?? ?
Wow Ravin, $850, that's almost half the price of a Minn Kota Riptide 55. Is is a saltwater motor? Is is cable steer or servo driven?
James.

It is a cable steer model & as far as warranty goes any corrosion from salt is not covered by warranty but any other dramas are. I fitted the anode myself its just a matter of tightening up 2 bolts to hold it in place. I will post a pic very shortly.

Jimi, Ravin's is the same as what Madaff & me have recently picked up from the sounds. Its the freshwater model, but reports are no problem so long as you fit an anode, with cable steer.
I had my first serious bash with it on the weekend and the steering response is fabulous and on the top speed setting made my little punt fairly flog along.

Heres a pic of it mounted on my Hornet. You can see the anode bolted to the leg down near the motor end .

Ravin have you got that foot control bolted down or the weight plate attached? The only real problem I've had with mine is that the thing moves around a bit on the deck and from time to time I have to search for it with my foot.

The foot control isn't bolted down its just resting there. I might fit a weight plate in the future I will see how it goes. It doesn't move about on me too much.

I have the same motor as ravin, but the 46lb and i love it. I think for the money you pay they are a top motor. They need abit of care as does any equipment used in the salt!
Ravin just a question did you fit the motor or a store???
I notice where your tie down velcro strap is?? It is supposed to be on the rear section of the mount, you will notice 2 holes in the strap, the 2 rear bolts that go into the boat go through these holes and the strap comes down designed to stop the motor jumping. :)
My foot pedal is not screwed down either it doesnt really moove around much if you have a carpeted deck. The optional weighted base should help somewhat, another option is to also try glueing some velcro underneath it might stop it from sliding around if you have carpet.

Thats strange, all the ones i have seen have them.
Anyway here is a diagram straight from the motorguide site so you can see where it goes.

You can always make the holes if you wanted to, just stopps the motor jumping and you dont have to be afraid of loosing the strap
I will try and get some photos of my one for you on the weekend so you can see what i mean.

G,day Tricky.
My Hornet is a 445 Wildfisher. When my hull was ordered from Quintrex I ordered it with a mounting bracket fitted for the electric to save fitting it later on.
