Is there any difference between the vanish line and the vanish leader that comes in the smaller spool. They both say that they are 100% fluro but I doubt that. Is one better than the other and what does everybody use, the vanish line or vanish leader.

Big difference. The leader is closer to pure fluorocarbon. The line has additives that change the chemistry and make it softer. Softer = limper and more manageable on reels, but alos less abrasion resistant.

There is better fluorocarbon available for leader material. Nitlon, Yamatoyo, Siglon, Linesystems to name a few.

Never used Vanish before, the reason is it is WEAK! I ahve heard alot of complaint about Vanish products (loss of fish/lures etc.)

As Shortlite said, there are much better brands, I personally like Yamatoyo and Momoi.

I'd like to try Nitlon some time, too. Heard some good stuff about this. :)

Im going back to using standard 10lb platyl line as leader, im nearly finished the leader i bought anbd found it soft and easy to get cut off or bit off by flathead, before suffix braid buddy i used platyl 12 lb and caught heaps and never lost a fish, guys most of this finnese stuff is in your head, any good quallity 8-12 lb line will do nicely and the line wont be weak like vanish ect.

Lure_muncher, I suggest you try yamatoya leaders - razor fluoro. It is strong, great abrasive resistance quality and is nice an supple.

First of all I must say that sunline/siglon assist me with my fluorocarbon leader material. Before this assistance began I used siglon almost exclusively. I think it is a big call to say any product is the best, so I think it would be fair to say that siglon is as good as any other high quality fluoro on the market that I have used. It is also reasonably priced for a 100 percent fluorocarbon material as opposed to those lines that are dipped in a fluorocabon bath and only coated.

I can concur with that. Siglon or Yamatoyo are considered the superior leaders going around. Even Nitlon leaders are good. They are better than Vanish. Although Vanish does hold its own.

Thanks guys,

I wil have to try something other than vanish myself after reading this thread (and since I now have some $20 bream lures, I really don't want to see swimming away in the mouth of a fat flathead!)

By the way, is it true, Kamikazeghost, that you are a doctor? If so, does it concern your patients that you are a slef-confessed
"silent assassin..... the deadliest of kinds......emotionless, cold and unseen....."?

LOL, nice one Adrian,

Yep, I'm a training doctor. How'd you know? Must have said something online.

Anyway, it's a quote my later master said to me a while back.

You're in Brisi aren't you? You have a boat? May tee up a fish with you one of these days.

Happy fishing mate.

Happy to meet up for a fish sometime - I'm on the Southside.
Being trainee dr must be handy for emergencies such as hook removal, acute stress related events brought on after losing fish-of-a-lifetime (and an expensive lure), and more chronic ailments such as fishing withdrawal syndromes, or weather turning bad just as days-off approach.

I'm told trainees and medical registrars are essentially slaves, with little time for leisurely pursuits - how do you find the time to get on the water, or is this a critical part of your stress management?

Where do you like to fish?

Oh yeah,

have a 12 year old 17 foot half cabin...actually I have 1/2 of one - I share it with my brother-in-law. I wish we could have divided across the middle, rather than down the centre - I'd have claimed the bow half - it's less expensive than the stern half.

LOL...... well, mayb u have to sneak the whole boat away.

Yep, being a training doctor sux, cos I don't get paid..... I pay to learn. Only get paid once I"m and intern and yes, it's basically being an admistrative slave to the consultants. I find the time to fish, cos I only do half days.......

This year hasn't been a great year for me anyways. I've been sick for half of it. So, due to that....... I decided I'm not staying in bed. I may as well get fresh air....... so........ GO FISHING

I go to a few places.

Raby Bay I go to when I"m bored. I fish the bay a bit for pinkies and sweeties (all on 4lb line with 6-8lb leader). What is really fun is catching mack tuna on the same gear. Probably not the best idea for the reel though. I hit any oyster lease system I can find and I do nerang a bit. I haven't head north to Mooloolaba as of yet, but will be doing so soon.
