... or get the new Stradic (FH) instead of the old FG series. Similar in many ways to the Biomaster, only real difference is that the Biomaster is a touch smoother and the Stradic 1000FG is 20g heavier than the Biomaster 1000.
Campbell's has the 1000FG the cheapest.

gday
so you would either buy a diwa or a okuma over the stradic any reasons why?

Shimano are the best advertisers and marketers.
Some of the other companies make gear that is as good or better.
Daiwa tend to have excellent drags in their threadlines, even at the lower price points.
Okuma are trying hard to get themselves a place and reputation in the market.

I'd buy an Okuma as well especially after a brand new Shimano Sahara stuffed while I was spooling it up for the first time. The friction ring split.

Value for money mainly with the Okuma - plus a five year warranty certainly helps...
Have a look at the Inspira here:

It is certainly a very nice reel, how much would you pay for the same features from Shimano?

Here is a US site with loads of Okuma models and prices:
http://digitaldagger.com/reels/Okuma/okuma.html
Inspira IS-15 = US$89 so about $180 Aust is likely.

Hmmmmm...
I did submit a picture, but there has been a stuff up somewhere along the way - the picture I sent them was the one below, hopefully it will be fixed soon:)
Evan the Inspira's aren't available in Aus yet - only a matter of weeks away, I should have two of the first ones arriving and I'll definitely be letting everyone know how they perform;)

Shimano are said to be the smoothest out of the box and gradually get worse with time, Daiwa retain their smoothness and tune longer. That is the message I've picked up around the traps.
Here is another snippet (one persons experience/opinion only)
http://www.ausfish.com.au/cgi-ausfish/board/YaBB.cgi?board=Tackle;action=display;num=104332475 5
about the 3rd post from the bottom.
Personally I bought a couple of Shimano reels in the 70's and 80's and one had to be returned almost immediately returned due to a disintegrated drag mechanism. The new replacement (they lost the original somehow) has also been problematic. It si rather worn out now, I also have a Penn SS420 and a Shakespeare Sigma 035 that have lasted rather better.
If you can afford the top models from company S, then they are probably absolute rippers (they sure look good), but I think that other brands might have a better lasting reel at the lower price points.
Don't get me wrong, if someone was giving me a Shimano Stella, Sustain, or Stradic I'd take it and love it.
yeah i have been fishing with shimanos for the last 3 yrs (culcuttas and stradics) and i have had no problems with them- i have them serviced every yeat at lest and they are still as smooth as the day i bought them.
one of my good mates has fished with them too esp the culcuttas and he has recently bought a diawa millionare and he rates them better than the culcuttas. i had a go of it and i prefer the culcuttas- so i guess it all boils down to personal preference.

I have Shimano overheads and they seem brilliant, a TLD-25 that hasn't done much work and a TSM-IV that is great. It's just the moderately priced threadlines I have doubts about.

I had been using Stradics for the last 7 - 8 years, until just recently,(I have four of varying ages). On stripping the main gears beyond repair I went to get another new one. My store didn't have one in stock, and he suggested I have a look at the Diawa Capricorn (1500 size). What a difference! I was so impressed I went and bought another one. To me, they are far superior to the Stradic. As I keep three rods rigged ready, one with a Stradic on it, I will re-rig a Capricorn rather than use it.
They seem smoother, have a better drag even without tuning, seem to have less of the dreaded fireline twist off, and having a slightly larger diameter and nitride lipped spool seem to cast better.

im reluctant to buy a shimano reel after using their bike components (ultegra), you could say im once bitten, twice shy.
their reels sound exactly like their bike stuff...works beautifully out of the box but its all downhill after that. its a pity coz they do the r & d and their stuff is well made....just not made to last.
if only campagnolo made fishing reels :), if they can do this with carbon fibre, imagine what a reel could look like. ;)

I personally have switched to Daiwa, and we have a great range of their reels coming into the shop. How does a smooth 7 ball bearing reel with a silky drag and spare spool for around $100 sound...
We are also waiting on the Capricorns, Lagunas, Samurais and Regal X's to come over.
I've been using two Regal Z - 1500C's in the comps and they have been faultless. They have handled cast after cast without the slightest sign of wear.
I can't recommend them highly enough. That being said, I am keen to have a look at these Inspira's ....

For me: Shimano reels and Daiwa rods.
I just like drooling over the solid graphite series from Daiwa. Check out this as a nice range of bream rods. I could do with one of each of these in my boat!

And check out the TD-Battler Sparrow on this page:
http://www.daiwaseiko.co.jp/fishing/bass/bass_rod_td/tdbattler/td_battler.html
or even the sexy beasts themselves... dressed in Ti Silicones... oooh yeah! :D

Sorry I'm just dreaming. I just love solid graphite rods!

For a cheaper option have a look at the Shimano Symetre. I've had mine for about 4 months now and haven't had any problem:)
But i think the epix and inspira are close to taking out the looks catagory.:D
Cheers breamobasser ;)

I've got two Sahara's in my stable and I'd hate to be without 'em.
I really like my Okuma but 8/10 I grab a Sahara.
It's just a lot smoother to me.
