Hi All

I am thinking of getting an electric motor later on maybe. Have never used an electric motors before and totally new to all this so please bear with me if what I state is incorrect. Wonder if you can fish with just an oar and a sea anchor? :( :rolleyes: Just at the stage of reading what I can and finding out more. Looking at the cable steer as read that it has easier to manouvre into the direction you want than the other ones, and think the cable steers don't have AP but don't want this luxury.

Anyhow kinda deciding betweent the Motor Guide FW54BW 42" 12 volt and the Minn Kota All Terriace 40AT 48" 12 volt. The price range is about the same, and yeah I realise still got to get the DC battery, charger etc etc.

Also does anyone know how much it would cost approx for installation?

I'm kinda leaning towards th MK as most of this community have a MK and easier to get parts etc is my conclusion and lots have not even heard of Motor Guide, one said what, you want a motor bike? :D

Do you have one of these? If so, why do you prefer yours and which would you recommend and why?

Dear Big-Pete, thank you for your advise. I have read every single one of the old posts, from top to bottom. However, my questions is slightly different on this occasion. It is asking for those owners of the abovementioned 2 models, to make their comments, or person who is an expert on electric motors. It is not asking about the debate between MK & MG in general but of course if people choose to, it's not within my control and understand what you mean about opening up a can of worms indeed.

Mate Id go the MK purely for the longer shaft, Ive got a powerdrive freshwater model MK but it does pop out the water on some swell so the longer shaft would be better by far. And IMO they are easier to use. But thats just my opinion. I dont have AP and do just fine.

i have the Motor Guide FW54BW 42" 12 volt and have found this a nice leccy to use. the only thing that i can suggest is 1 - fit a anode to the shaft if using in salt water [ i know people will say it will void warrenty but wash after each use is the key ] and 2 - the friction on the pedal takes a bit to get use to as mentioned in other post . i have used this motor for the last 7 months and i havn't had any prob's , jmo . it is moving a 4mtr stacer and it does it with no probs, just dont forget that if using a fw model in salt to wash down after each use...

p.s a 120ah battery is a good option runs all-day without a prob
