Hi Luke,
If you have a look through the Electric Trolling Motors section, you will find all the info you are looking for. This topic has been covered many times.
Cheaper is motorguide, better quality is Minn Kota.

Hi
Have used MINI KOTA on charter vessel for many years has been great.
But now gone to plastic bracket on transom mount it doesn't last long.
I had it replced under warranty after 2 months with metal version.
3 months later it let go, motor went to bottom rest of bracket still attached to boat.
Motor replaced under warranty but lots of hassel.
Motor guide is a little more expensive here and several guides I know use them now and think they are better.

I thought that Motor guide was always cheaper.
Like nearly half price.

Motorguide= cheaper AND better quality, not only that they invented the electric trolling motor.

it has served me well, and on my boat particularly ( check out search: The Sub) you'll see it's had a hard life and been flogged unmercilessly.
Saying that, i have seen many Minn kotas suffer from minor electrical faults which require at least a 6 week turn around from WA to brisbane for repair under warranty.
( Question: is BLA going to get somebody traines to run a service section for them here in WA????, i reckon there is enough of them floating around now to warrant it )
A foot controlled electric motor whilst Bream spinning is crucial, it will put fish in your boat and you'll have a ball. I am convinced that either unit is as good as the other, manufacturers these days don't make crap otherwise they would be out of business, you only have to decide on servo driven or direct cable.
Get one, you'll love it.
Geoff
They already have geoff....
took mine in last week, new foot pedal, power cables and tightened up every screw in the motor....
turnaround was less than a week!
