Hey everyone

Just wandering if those cheap fly set ups you can get from most tackle shops are any good. I think they are called a "Fly Trout Rod". You get a rod, a reel, line and some flies. They are around $100. My fly setup at the moment is a 7-9weight which is a bit to heavy for bream and trout.

By the way if anyone wants to buy my setup, I bought the hole thing off Bill Anderson (experienced fly fisherman) for those who don't know him. I bought it for $160 and want to sell it for $90ono. This rod has new line a good working reel and has hardly been used!!
Or if anyone has a trout fly rod they don't use i wouldn't mind swapping it for my fly rod.

Also if anyone can give me some information on trout in freshwater dams or rivers in Western Austalia on fly and spin could you please give me some information!!

cheers pappy

As with most things, you get what you pay for. I've had a look at some of those combos but opted not to go that way because the fly line you're getting is probably crap, the rod may be heavier than you'd prefer for a few hours casting. If you're limited by cash, then classifieds are the way to go. I wouldn't bother too much with the reel because its function (for freshwater anyway) is mainly to store the fly line. Fishing for bonefish in exotic flats is a different matter altogether when the fish can take you to the backing. I'd say, get a decent rod, some good flyline and you're on your way.
