Went down the blackwood for a fish and caught sweet f.a. from the flats at the mouth of the scott, the rockbars at molloy and the snags on the way up to the ski area. Saw a few in the sounder sitting at 5m deep but the 1/16th heads just didnt get down with the current and wind so i gave up and headed for the ramp.
Yet as soon as i got the boat on the trailer and took the battery out etc everyones friend the Blackwood netter came along with a big grin on his face as he prepared his nets in front of me. Off he went towards the ski area knowing very well that if his tyres were down when he returned, I would have been the one that had done it. So for anyone heading down that way soon, look out for the number 'edited by Bear'. Im not encouraging people to do anything nasty to him (much:D ) but at least we will know who he is and possibly be able to keep an eye on him. He's obviously got into the habit of setting nets sunday when people leave for home and collect them monday etc. With people watching him there is a better chance he will get caught if he slips up.
All I can say is the blackwood is fishing hard enough atm without this scumbag around.
JMO and sorry for the negative post
Brad, can't let you post that sort of stuff mate. As much as he likes to rub it in our faces, even netting just before the Augusta round, there are better ways to do it.

Yeah no probs mate. Did go too far. Wont happen again. Been listening to Eye of the Tiger for hockey too much
Im still pissed off though- he was sitting there watching me with a grin while he was rigging his nets, knowing that i was part of this cohort of catch and release anglers. Just plain ignorance.
Surprising though he is not an old bloke and must have his lisence for a while yet...

Tell me about it. I havent been able to catch even a herring in the last two weeks. Things are crook when you cant get herring round these places.
Advice taken. Cheers fellas.

Hey there Brad, too bad about the slow fishing dude, I was there in the Scott about 2 months ago and it was super quiet, and as black as one of my morning espresso's. Is the water still like that or has it reverted back to the stage where you can see a few feet into it?
I'm not going to have another shot at it till things warm up a bit.

Yeah mate its still really dark. I resorted to pink flouro scorpions as my hb choice as its the only colour that stands out.
Hows the capel going? any fish? Im obviously looking for another fishin hole to try...

The Capel was pushing pretty hard about 3 weeks back, but the flow is dropping back, quite good clarity up my way, but still way too fast, and i'm in the reddy only zone, I would hazard a guess though and say there would be a chance down near the mouth.
With a relatively small catchment, the Capel is up and down fairly quickly in response to rain (or lack of), so right now, seeing as theres been low rainfall for a coupla weeks, the lower reaches might have calmed down a bit.
As for me, I'm still chopping vines up, but the Mullet is considering getting down here for a look around the Bunbury area, I guess I can squeeze a day free to give him a hand! :D Seeya , Crackers.

I heard it from a reliable source that a tonne of Blackies have been taken from the Blackwood so far this season.
Same old story: fish are on the move because of the rains and the nets are at their most effective catch rate. The worst is yet to come when the fish move back up to breed. Rather stupid to have the fellas from Murdoch restocking fingerlings and then seeing them off to market when they reach legal size.
Gone are the days when you could catch a dozen Blackies on fly all over 3lb in one Sunday arvo session. Even If the slaughter stopped now it would take several years for the biomass to reach the same proportions it was in the late 90,s
Saltwater Flyrodders have a presentation from the two principle scientists involved in the Murdoch Black Bream Study comming up at our September 6th meeting. I am told that it will reveal our worst fears regarding the future Bream stocks in the Blackwood, and will provide much material for further letters to the minister.
Its an open meeting and I invite all Breamaster members to come along and listen. I will post further details as they become available.
Cheers

Hello. (Long time site stalker, first time poster.)
I too fish the Blackwood regularly and most recently I watched Trevor net the ski area. Although i have seen him net the Blackwood in different areas and on many other occasions, I was devasted to see his five nets pulled right in front of my eyes.
From the five nets that were pulled , each held around 15 to 20 very large bream. All went in to the bucket. I watched him for approx 15 mins and took quite a few photos too.
When he was finished he gave me a friendly wave !! I replied with a friendly two fingered fork.
It broke my heart watching this.
I know he has the support of the Augusta locals and I know he offered to sell his license back to the government a year or two back but something needs to be done.( Legally).
It seems crazy that Murdoch Uni attempt to restock , yet the catch ends up being sent to somewhere ( where? ). I was told it was the processors in Dunsborough.
Anyway enough for now.
