Not extremely bream related, but I was wanting an opinion on this baby in terms of its light-lure casting ability. Teamed with a 1-3kg 5'8"; could it do 1/8ths with definite ease?

Anyone fish with one?

cheers

I have one, teamed with a Miller/Shimano Ultra Lite Bass rod. After lubing the bearings with Yellow Rocket Fuel, it will throw a 1/8 oz spinnerbait 20-30m. It struggles with anything lighter though. Very versatile and well made reel. The best baitcasters for ultra light lures are the TDZ-103/105 and the Shimano Scorpion 1000. An excellent comparison of them can be found at www.japantackle.com (see Junn's recommendations). Also, Diawa are about to release the Pixy, which is designed specifically for light lures. Both the TDZ and Pixy have magnesium parts though, so I wouldn't use them in the salt.

I also have a TDS-105H, which I shipped in from Japan. An excellent low profile reel, which will throw 1/8 oz with ease and can be used in the salt.

Yeah I know the Scorp 1000 would be ideal. And I know 1/8th is pushing it with the CVX... I'll be throwing more than that probably 90% of the time anyway, otherwise I just use spinning gear.
