hey MMF,
how goes it?
Well mate I use a Daiwa Capricorn 1500 and i love it!!
You get a spare spool and thats great when you want to quickly upgrade your line class.
I got mine on the cheap but i believe they are around the $280 mark. Not to pricey and a well built, smooth, nice looking little reel:D

Hey Mike,
I have the Okuma AV30 and the FA30. Great value for money and they do the job without complaints. A few of the guys I know with the Epix have had trouble with it throwing loops, haven't had this with my 2.

Dead on there Bear. My EB30 throws the very odd one but not anything like Richo's 20. Picked up an AV15 this week thats nice but probably will throw a couple as well.

In terms of new reels, I saw a Daiwa Capricorn 2000 that looked the bees knees.

If you want to keep your outlay under $150 Mike, the Daiwa Regal Z 1500C is great value for money. We bought two to use in the comps, and haven't had any drama's so far. They do throw the odd loop like most, but come with 4 ball bearings and a host of other features. Tim Morgan used them exclusively before he switched to Stella's. You can probably wangle one for around $120 - $130 if you really push.

Yep the Okuma Epix`s are still around for sure and YES my 20 does throw heaps of loops, well for me anyway.

In fact they have just released an Epix EF15 pity we won`t see it in Australia - Id really like a look at it...

And the Inspira15 upwards has just being released in Aus and will be available after christmas, I would post a pic but am still trying to work out how.

Alternatively PM Mick selling the reel on here, it looks an absolute bargain at that price.

Cheers

Richo:p

Richo, I had all sorts of dramas trying to upload a pic here, when I was using Netscape. I switched to IE and now it's a doddle. I still use Netscape for everything else, but with Java it seems to s**t itself too often.

G'day Kevin,
I did the same. Unfortunately Netscape does not go well with java.

Christmas came early for me today. JP bought me my a brand new reel today. Daiwa Laguna 1500. Has 7 ballbearings + a spare alloy spool. It is sooooooo smooth.
Normally in a session I get at least 3-4 birds nests. Today I almost had 1, but it was sooo loose it just fell apart.
Not bad considering the guy at Campbells spooled it up for me and overspooled it in the process.
It weighs 265g or for those of you who are not metric 9.3oz. At $169 I think it is great value and I am a happy lady today

Cheers

Mim

P.S. Just found a pic of the 2500 reel so I have attached it. Mine is just smaller

gotta agree with Mim the little Daiwa Laguna is a class act and really shone today, even being overspooled by 25 yards didn't stop her and I really hadn't seen her casting that well before today. What do they say about confidence putting fish in the boat cos' Mim was breaming .... with confidence. cheesy line...anyway we had a great afternoon on the water Mim, Tildy and JP. :D Lucky me...how many of you get to fish with two girls and Tildy even got the biggest Bream a 32cm job that went back in the water at the boat ramp. Hey did anyone catch the sunset cos' it was absolutely fantastic as I pulled the boat in at Ravenswood.

ps: I've got 2 ABU CD4 1000's and Tildy has a Shimano FX2000
the little Daiwa just wipes the floor with them

I have the same reel, guys. Very nice. I had been used to the $20-$40 specials before now, so a quality reel like the Laguna was a real treat.

Is a good source to check the price/value of your local purchase. They seem to have hundreds of different kinds of tackle.

Just fyi.

One that impresses me guys is the Shakespeare Pflueger.

Got one as a Chrissie pres and can't wait to give it a flogging. Very smooth action and very tidy unit.

Hey Guys.
I have the Samuria 2500 7i and it is a treat. I paid only $80 for it at Carrington Street Tackle. Great buy!!!
Daiwa are really bringing some awesome reels at cheap cost at the moment!

07-01-2003, 01:05 AM
Haha, i have the Pflueger rod in the 2-6kg range.
It is awesome. Ican't believe the finish on it considering it is a factory machine made rod. It really is brilliant. i recommmend it for anyone as it is prolly in the top 5 for value for money. Around 150 (i got it at 135 at Allsports Tackle).
Matched with the reel i mentioned above, it is a dream.:D

Your right Kingpin.
The Daiwa Samurai are great reels. mine is the 1500 and with 7 ball bearings, an extra spool for only $100 it was a great buy.

Being an ex LBG specialist (years spent at Steep Point) I really am kinda passionate about the Penn SS series.
My current Bream Combo is a Diawa Powermesh Rod (with the changable tips) and a Penn 4200 SS.
They have a HUGE drag and hold enormous amounts of line. I like if for bream using 1 and 2kg butI have also caught Sharkies upto 7kg and Mulloway upto 10kg with no hicups from the drag.
I think they still go for around 150-170.
